Due to tumblr’s limit on the number of links that can be put in a single post I am breaking up the french resource list into three posts. This is the grammar section:

I bought this children’s book by Kazuo Iwamura in Japan last year.

In France the series is well-known and is called “la famille souris” (in English it’s “the 14 forest mice”). I loved it when I was a kid and it’s been lovely to read them to my daughters.

I finally got around to reading this one to them, now that I can more or less understand it.

The title is pretty self-explanatory: on a hot summer day, when the rain finally lets up, the mice family, all fourteen of them, goes to do their laundry in a nearby stream…

I found the vocab really cute! ✨

降り続く（ふりつづく）: to fall continuously (rain, snow…)

森（もり）: forest

太陽（たいよう）: sun

差し込む（さしこむ）: to shine through

鳴き出す（なきだす）: to start singing/chirping/etc.

シャツ : shirt

パンツ : panties, briefs, knickers

シーツ : sheet

着く（つく）: to arrive

歌う（うたう）: to sing

物干し場 （ものほしば）: place for hanging clothes

〜ちゃう : to do something completely

Sometimes we discuss current events in our Japanese class. This Thursday, our sensei gave us disaster related vocabulary due to the horrible events in Hokkaido this week. Naturally, our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we hope that things get better soon.

Faire le fiérot - to be smug/pleased with yourself

There are different expressions in Japanese that can be understood as “whatever”:

かってにして。"Do what you want"

まいいか。"well,I guess that’s fine"
