Until I find you again

Some angst incoming 🫣

“My love?” You lift your gaze from the travel journal that Rafayel and you filled together, to look at his spot in front of a canvas he is working on. “What would you do, if I’m gone one day?”

Rafayel turns to you, brush still in hand but the stroke he was about to do never makes it into existence. The sunset eyes locking onto you, the elegant brows furrowed. “What do you mean, when you’re gone one day?”

You let your gaze drift over his beautiful features; memorizing every mole in his face, every little strand of his wavy purple hair that sticks out where it not belong and the triangle of smooth skin that peeks out from his white half buttoned shirt.

“I mean it exactly how I said it: What would you if I’m gone one day?”

Now Rafayel puts down his brush, the one you once gifted him — Custom-made by yours truly and built with the finest coral stone you could find. With slow steps he walks over and sitting beside you at the large orange sofa. Both your hands are gently cradled in his bigger ones, and the callouses at the pads of his fingers rough on your skin as your husband absentmindedly starts to stroke over your knuckles.

With brows still furrowed, maybe in confusion or worry, you’re not entirely sure, Rafayel slowly starts. “I never thought about it because I don’t want to imagine a single day that you’re not with me.” Then his gaze lifts, capturing yours with a heaviness you only partly expected. “But…” A little pause. “I’ll wait for you to come back to me.” And as he observes how you open your mouth to answer, he winks and adds “Ooor I’m going to search for you, stealing you back from whatever keeps you away from me.”

“Rafayel…” you whisper, suddenly there are tears prickling in the corner of your eyes. “What if I’m truly gone. Like Forever.”
