Laila Mir was born to a British mother, Catherine Shaw, a literature professor, and a Kashmiri father, Imran Mir, a restaurateur, in London. Growing up in a multicultural household, Laila developed an appreciation for both her British and Kashmiri roots, often balancing Sunday roasts with Kashmiri Rogan Josh at family dinners.
As a child, Laila was drawn to artistic pursuits, often sketching wedding dresses and making flower arrangements for school projects. Her parents nurtured her creative instincts, believing they were a reflection of her dual heritage and strong imagination.
When Laila was 11 years old, her family relocated to San Diego, California, where her father opened a successful Kashmiri restaurant. The move was a significant transition for Laila, as she adapted to a new culture while holding onto her British and Kashmiri heritage. San Diego's vibrant and diverse community further nurtured her creative spirit.
Laila attended the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she majored in Event Management. During her university years, she interned with high-profile event planners in Southern California, gaining experience in organizing luxury weddings and corporate events. Her meticulous attention to detail quickly made her a rising star in the industry.
Laila met Hasad Aslan during her time in San Diego, a charming man with dreams as vivid as her own. Their whirlwind romance inspired dreams of building a life together even though her parents warned her often that she was too young to dream about forever.
In the summer of 2009, just weeks before their planned move to Kismet Harbor, Laila discovered she was pregnant. The news left her overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty, as she felt unprepared for motherhood while balancing her budding career.
Before she could share the news with Hasad though, Laila suffered a miscarriage. She chose not to tell him, worried that the revelation would weigh heavily on their already carefully laid plans. However the loss deeply affected her, but she continued to bury her emotions, believing it was the best way to protect both herself and Hasad. There was a large level of guilt associated with the miscarriage, guilt of not telling him sooner, guilt of not being able to protect their child—the guilt weighed down on her quite heavily.
But the miscarriage, coupled with Laila’s reluctance to move on, led to tensions in her relationship with Hasad. She didn’t tell him though, believing in that moment that choosing to remain silent was better than anything. Instead—she disappeared. She didn’t confront him, she didn’t tell him—she just became unreachable. So when the news came to her that Hasad continued on with their plans and had moved to Kismet Harbor, she too decided to return to London, needing a fresh start and a way to focus on her career once more.
Over the next decade, Laila built a stellar career as an event planner, working for some of the most exclusive venues in London. Her talent for creating breathtaking weddings earned her accolades and a loyal clientele, but she often wondered what her life might have been like had she followed Hasad to Kismet Harbor.
In November 2024, Laila took a leap of faith and moved to back to the United States, this time to Kismet Harbor to work as the lead event planner at a charming wedding venue. The decision was spurred by a desire to rediscover herself and finally confront the ghosts of her past. Of course she had no idea if Hasad still resided there but a large urge to come clean about her secrets was the driving force behind this move.
Settling into the quaint town, Laila finds solace in its serene beauty and close-knit community. While she has built a new life for herself, the town’s familiarity often brings back memories of Hasad and their unfinished story. Laila’s journey in Kismet Harbor is as much about creating magical moments for others as it is about finding closure and rediscovering her own happiness.
