“Relax, Lagertha, you know it’s just an expression. I’ve always had a soft spot for that timeless face of yours.” He smirked, continuing to ponder on what had brought her here, before finally recalling who the founder was. “The Hamptons and the Lothbroks are still inseparable, I take it? Perhaps I shouldn’t have been so surprised to see you after all. Although I am curious, what made you open your doors to all this riffraff?” It didn’t seem to be their style, helping mortals. He wondered what’d convinced Amelie to change her ideology. Arguably, though, he was in the same position himself. Even more so, considering he was now willing to die to protect his human family. Time had changed them both. 

“And I for yours,” she smiled, genuine. Although many in the Mikaelson family had caused her a great deal of distress, Kol had always felt separate. Perhaps it was because he’d also suffered the same distress, and by their own hands. “Of course. Family must always come first.” Lagertha knew he’d been raised with the same ideal, although unfortunately, his biological family had never truly showcased it. She hummed, considering how to phrase her response. “Practical reasons, really. Community. Supplies. Protection. Unlike so many before us, we will not have division and weakness. — And you? I would never have expected to find you here, least of all at the mortals’ infirmary. What brings you here?” She questioned, glancing at the name on the clipboard hung up outside the room he’d been hovering near. Finnick Odair. A Victor, a leader amongst the rebellion, but that was all she knew. It was certainly curious.

Lagertha tutted at the age comment, finding it amusing. “Hardly an old face, I hope, or something has gone very wrong. But maybe a century or more? You haven’t changed a bit, thank the gods. Not on the outside, anyway.” She was curious as to where he’d been for all these years. Winding up with the Rebels hardly seemed like his calling, not from what she remembered.

“Oh please. Not once in over a thousand years have you ever looked anything other than ethereal. Even the ghastly fashion of the seventies failed in tainting your beauty. Sleep has nothing to do with it.” They’d seen each other at their absolute worst, but Lagertha had never been anything other than beautiful in Amelie’s eyes. It would always be that way between them; protective, devoted and eternal. “Now that you mention gods, I must tell you. I’ve heard a rumour that Thor Odinson himself plans to join us.” 

“You must be kidding?” Her smile dropped, expression one of awe. “The god of thunder himself, to walk amongst mortals? How is it possible?”

“Oh, stop. You know you will always be timeless to me.” Amelie reached out, touching Lagertha’s cheek with delicate fingers. “But as far as friendships go, I believe ours is the oldest. I consider that an accomplishment.”

“I should hope so — you know, it is not easy to stay looking this good. I need a lot of beauty sleep.” Lagertha smiled at the touch, once again appreciating the nature of their relationship. She loved her family more than anything, and had always been a survivor, but she knew she would never have lived so well, had a life so rich, if Amelie had not been in it. “You are right. That I will allow to be labelled ‘old’. A tale as old as the gods themselves. I know that was their destiny for us.”
