bitter longing
a hole exists in my heart
where your roots once grew
clusters of severed arteries and veins
snatched from the source,
the warm glow of love i had for you
the vessels, with open arms
they reach for each other
singing of the days they connected,
now an unrequited dream
but they reach and reach
there’s not enough iron
there’s not enough oxygen
there’s not enough light
and so the blood, it keeps
dripping
leaking
oozing
slowly
filling the void with poison,
the venom of your love
because blood, though vital
can still kill you.
as i succumb to my wounds
i still long for you
