Fantasy, Romance

So, before I start this review, you have to know that fantasy is not really a genre I am fond of, especially in kdrama and especially in kdrama with reincarnated characters (first love reborn). But I still wanted to give this show a try so, here it goes.

Tale of the Nine Tailed is a relatively good kdrama if you are into fantasy kdrama with a bit of romance, legendary creatures and brotherly love.

While I had a good time watching the first episodes, I became less and less invested in the story as the weeks passed by. One of the main reasons that can explain this disinterest is that I did not really connect with the two main characters. They were not particularly horrible, they just lacked this little something that makes a character special.

I, however, found this spark in another character and he was the reason why I  kept watching this show. Lee Rang was the good surprise that came out of Tale of the Nine Tailed. His character was well written and Kim Bum did a really great acting performance. I particularly love Lee Rang’s relationship with Lee Yeon and I was waiting for them to interact every episode. The two brothers really had strong Thor-Loki vibes.

What I did like about Tale of the Nine Tailed was the beginning of the show, when each episode was about a mythical creature. I really wish the drama had kept going in this direction instead of stopping as soon as the bad guy showed up.

Overall I would say I did not fully enjoy this kdrama because the first episodes gave me expectations that were not satisfied by the rest of the series. The relationship between the two brothers still kept me watching and interested until the very end.

Comedy, Romance

This drama was absolutely amazing, I finished it yesterday and I still have no word to describe how brilliant it is.

First, you have to know that I had huge expectations about Crash Landing On You because I’ve been hearing about this kdrama since I started watching them, around 6 months ago. Let me tell you that it did not disappoint!

The chemistry between Hyung Bin and Son Ye-jin is phenomenal and I was not surprised to learn that they were now dating in real life. 

What I really love about this drama is how well friendship is represented. Friends love and support each other through difficult times and that is exactly what they do in this series. I particularly love the North Korean women and soldiers and their friendship with Se-ri. 

I also like that , for once, all the parents were normal and not absolutely horrible. They cared about their children and did not attempt to murder or disinherit them (like in some kdramas). I especially love Dan’s mother, she supported her daughter’s choices the whole time even when it went against what she wanted.

I really enjoyed the pacing of the story, especially the fact that it takes place in several places. I was a bit scared at first that it would only take place in North Korea and therefore be a bit redondant, but I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong.

Finally, I love all the emotions this kdrama made me feel. I cried so much both from laughter and from sadness. I was not bored one minute and that is all I ask of a tv show.

PS: Special mention to the North Korean army team for being the funniest characters of the show and winning my unconditionnal love and support.

Thriller, Mystery, Romance

One of the best kdramas of 2020 if not the best. This thriller will keep you at the edge of your seat!

Lee Jon-gi and Moon Chae-won delivered an outstanding performance as husband and wife and made me go through a myriad of emotions in the span of seconds. I love the development of each character (main and secondary) and the way they changed as secrets were revealed. 

The story moved at the perfect pace, it wasn’t to quick, it wasn’t to slow, it was just right. The lies and secrets didn’t take 10 episodes to be revealed and the main detective story was really captivating.

I like that it was both predictable and unpredictable in the way that the plot twists, even if they were shocking, didn’t come out of nowhere (which is a huge flaw for some kdramas who like to abuse plot twists only for shock value and not as a way to move the plot forward). 

I would recommend Flower of Evil to anyone who wants to watch a story that is so captivating that they will get lost in it!
