The bipartisan push to remove anonymity from the internet is ushering in an era of unprecedented mass surveillance and censorship.
The problem is that there’s no way to reliably verify someone’s age without verifying who they are. A platform cannot magically discern that a user is 16 without collecting identifying information, whether through government documents such as a passport, payment information like a credit card, or other identity-disclosing data. Whether that data is stored by the platform itself or outsourced to a vendor, the result is always the same: A user’s offline identity is forever linked with their online behavior.
Stripping anonymity from the internet would constitute one of the most sweeping rollbacks of civil rights in recent history. It would allow for unprecedented levels of mass surveillance and censorship, endangering the most marginalized members of society. Whistleblowers exposing corporate wrongdoing could be tracked and fired, government employees speaking out about illegal behavior or bad policies could face prosecution, and activists organizing protests could be identified and surveilled before ever setting foot on the street.
Already, the U.S. government is flooding social media platforms with subpoenas seeking to unmask hundreds of anonymously run anti-ICE social media accounts. These laws would make it all the more easier for the government to target and prosecute those who dissent.
Vulnerable members of society will suffer most. Trans people under attack from the government could be identified and outed without their consent. Undocumented immigrants could be cut off from the ability to communicate and connect with advocates. Young people seeking abortions in states with restrictive laws might no longer have the ability to access information safely and anonymously.

@everyone due to the constantly changing list of bill names and numbers, I would state that we want them to oppose all of the current internet bills — and specifically everything on the schedule for Thursday's markup — as well as to protect Section 230

hello i am calling about various internet policy being brought up in next week
first m decode is [give zip code]
First, I want to state Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act should not be repealed or allowed to sunset. it is the only thing protecting users online from being censored. Section 230 is the backbone of the internet. it makes only users accountable for what they post online with hosting sites simply required to remove the illegal content once pointed out to them.,, It does not protect companies from reporting child pornography . Removing it would slow the internet and open the floodgates to lawsuits that only Big Tech would be able to afford. It
We need to also say NO to the App Store Accountability Act and other digital id systems and age verification laws! Digital ID systems and Age verification attempts in theUK have been disastrous, leading to hackers stealing a lot of children's personal information because it was collected all in one place. It made children less safe. Centralized storage of personal data creates high-value targets, resulting in massive breaches, identity theft, and ransomware attacks.
Finally Kosa, or the Kids online safety act, is a bill that would be weaponized by unelected bureaucrats to censor Americans. The bill lets any state attorney general and the FTC to sue any website for “harmful” content.. Big Tech and credit card companies are already censoring us. That’s why they support KOSA. Its massive government overreach.

thank you for your time
anothe call script
Basically call script for KIDS Act
"Hello, my name is [NAME].
I am calling urging you to oppose the passage of the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act. Or KIDS Act.
This deceptively named bill, while it claims to protect children on the internet, is nothing but a Trojan horse for censorship and control of information. It was made by people who are trying to brute force through Congress a collection of controversial internet bills covering everything from age verification, online ID, and data collection just for people to be able to do something as simple as use a search engine or download an app. Do you really want Big Tech companies to be allowed and even encouraged to collect mass amounts of data to supposedly protect children? By trying to sneak through a collection of controversial bills like KOSA and the SCREEN Act under a new name, this bill undermines the foundation of the citizens privacy and safety in online spaces.
Vote against the KIDS Act, and all other internet bills which threaten the integrity of our privacy and freedoms online."
Ok, but I gotta set the record straight. Starting next month, March of 2026, Discord will be asking for our personal stuff in order to verify our age and to "protect teens and kids" on the platform. I'm talking about Discord literally asking you to give them a picture of your Government ID and a video selfie of yourself in order to get full access to the platform. I know Discord encountered a data breach in October of 2025, which affected more than 70,000 users. Despite the incident, Discord is still encouraging users to show their ID and their video selfie in order to have full access.
I am personally uncomfortable with sharing my personal information and I don't want to put myself at risk. That's why I'm letting y'all know about it now since I will be leaving Discord next month if the verification thing ever happens. If you want to know more about this, here's a link to a site that talks about the issue in full detail.
Discord to block adult content unless users verify ages with selfies or IDs.
(Source: "Discord faces backlash over age checks after data breach exposed 70,000 IDs" - Belanger, 2026, ARS TECHNICA )
If I'm missing anything, please let me know. I'm not really good at explaining stuff, but let me know if I did this post justice or not djsjsjsj 🤧
One of the Discord alternatives I recommend is Root because it works just like Discord. I know there's Teamspeak too, but yee! Let me know if there are other alternatives to discord too! I would really appreciate it!
Remember, do NOT share any of your personal information to Discord! Ok, stay safe, chat!
Repealing Section 230 would be dangerous or deadly for thousands of young people, activists, and journalists
2) Call your house member and senate leaders and tell them: NO age verification, NO KOSA, and NO gutting or sunsetting Section 230 (It's a weekday, they take voicemails.

heads up, we now have a date for when the Senate will kick start their attacks on Section 230.
Punchbowl News reported on February 4 that there will be a press conference attacking 230, claiming it harms children. In light of literally everything else going on in the news, this is so laughable. It's behind a paywall, so someone was able to get the article.
The liability shield that serves as the legal foundation of the modern internet is about to turn 30. Its critics are hoping to make it an un
Here's the excerpt.
"Anniversaries are a great time for policy pushes, and we’ve found out Section 230’s birthday will be no different. At least one focus appears to be a bipartisan bill from Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) to put an end date on the provision two years from now.
“We do want to bring it up on the floor,” Durbin said when asked about action for February, though he said an exact date hadn’t been decided on. Durbin and former Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), who was House Democratic leader when the provision passed, are also scheduled to join a news conference with advocates calling for unspecified “reform” to Section 230 this week.
Other lawmakers will be picking up on Section 230, said Rick Lane, who has helped coordinate several efforts to change the provision, including the lawallowing more lawsuits from victims of sex trafficking.
“Starting with the February 4 event that’s kicking this off, you’re going to see a lot of members talking about the need to sunset 230,” Lane said. Playing defense. There are a lot of reasons that the vast majority of proposals to change Section 230 have so far failed, but the Senate is a big one.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), who helped write Section 230 when he was in the House, has been its most stalwart defender, throwing up procedural hurdles whenever he could. Wyden said he’s ready to continue that fight, arguing that liability protections are especially vital for small platforms that could face ruinous litigation (and that will clamp down on users’ ability to express themselves in a bid to avoid lawsuits).
“I’m going to continually make the point that the big guys are fine rolling back 230,” Wyden said. “It’s the little guys who are going to lose their voice.”
The problem for Wyden, though, is that he’s losing some of his most public allies."
Be prepared to start a social media storm on the 4th, moving onward, defending it, and to start blasting these senators on social media. We need the news media on OUR side to shut this down. We MUST protect Section 230. There is no other option.
But who's buying the phones for them? Who's not teaching them how to be online safely, who's not teaching them healthy social media habits? Who's not making sure they aren't getting groomed or targeted by pedophiles?
If youre a parent who wants to ban social media for teenagers, maybe try being a parent first and ya know, actually help them learn how to use it safely instead of treating them like babies who can't make choices for themselves. You want them to be adults? Talk to them and treat them like one.
You can't expect these social media apps to hold their hand and protect them. They don't protect anyone lmfao it's YOUR job to keep safe. So teach your kids how to do that for themselves.
dont give ANY government power the ability to control *your* kids ability to be online. because theyre gonna start pushing for more control. They're gonna control the information everyone sees. They're gonna control things they have no business controlling.
Because they always do, you KNOW they always do. So why are you letting them be the parents for your kids?
🚨🚨🚨KOSA & other age verification bills being voted on in subcommittee TOMORROW 12/11
Long story short, there are about ~18 age verification/"child safety" laws being put into one big package in the House.
The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee that oversees these age verification bills are voting THIS THURSDAY aka tomorrow to pass these bills onto the full committee, and then the full House. We need to drive as much opposition as we can on these bills, specifically KOSA, the App Store Accountability Act, and honestly any age verification bill which many of these are.
This is how to do it and how you can fight back on age verification
1) Call the house representatives in the committee. Use a call script if you don't know what to say
You can do it two ways. You can either go to the subcommittee site and call each one here: https://energycommerce.house.gov/committees/subcommittee/Commerce
(scroll down, click their names, phone number is under their picture)
or you can use this call script to connect to members here: www.badinternetbills.com
you can use this call script too: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IyBUe6frFGF44rJQU3TahZ5zyG3tC7jai_hPneAKlnM/edit?tab=t.0
2) Spread the word! We need as much mass opposition as we can right now. So many stakeholders, policymakers, and politicians etc are looking at public opinion on these bills. We were able to stop them before because of the mass opposition, we need that again. Let everyone you know know. Spread the word!

Hello people, this is the list of subcommittee members along with their political party and numbers from the energy & commerce website you can call them easily instead of clicking on the site and having to go through with them one by one:
A 19-bill package in the US House will affect everyone on the Internet.
But you can stop this from happening!
Whether you're a musician, online artist, fanfiction writer, gamer, fandom enthusiast...whether you're on TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Bluesky, these bills will affect YOU.
BUT DON'T PANIC! We have until December 10th to stop these bills from passing!
This is a brief post to inform about the situation, and what you can do about it. (Main points in bold text)
WHAT'S HAPPENING?
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce is currently having a hearing on a 19 bill package, these bills seek to do everything from censorship to age verifications in the name of "protecting children".
WHY ARE PEOPLE WORRIED?
While we all want to protect kids and pay attention to what they watch, these bills will not help. In fact, as many people argue, it will have the opposite effect.
One example is with YouTube rolling out AI systems, which look at your watch/search history to determine if you are a minor or an adult. This means that even a minor's activity and data will be watched by YouTube, raising privacy concerns.
Speaking of data privacy, these bills require you to give your sensitive info (like your government ID) to sites that constantly get security breaches. But more importantly, it's part of a bigger concern about the loss of privacy on the Internet.
If you've heard about the chaotic state of internet in the United Kingdom, well, that's exactly what this bill package aims to do, even implied in the title of their bill "Kids Online Safety Act" (KOSA), which mirrors the UK's "Online Safety Act".
WHAT CAN I DO?
If you can, the best thing you can do is call your representatives!
1. Find your rep Find Your Representative | house.gov
2. Find a script for what to say (There are multiple scripts made for this specifically. @botheryourreps has scripts here, but feel free to reblog with others' call/voicemail scripts or even your own.
3. Keep calling! As far as I know we have until Dec 10th to call.
If you can't call, send mail. Keep in mind that your reps will rarely read emails! But if that's all you can do, it's worth a try.
I've been hearing that physical mail and fax are more effective tho, so I'd suggest either of those as well.
Again, there's no need to panic! There is urgency in this situation, but this post is to inform and to redirect your concerns towards action! We can change the course of this hearing.
If you're stressed about the news and the scary things going on this year, this is the best thing you can do to resolve that stress!
Call your reps before December 10th!

“I am urging you to vote NO on the 19-bill online safety package in the House Energy and Commerce committee. Barely anything in this bill protects kids. Democrat version
“I am urging you to vote NO on the 19-bill online safety package in the House Energy and Commerce committee. Barely anything in this bill protects kids. Most of these bills are age verification bills, which hundreds of human rights groups including the ACLU oppose.
They require verification data be collected from children, which puts their personal data all in one place easily for hackers. A similar system has already caused problems in Britain, putting children at risks.
And the Kosa bill or (Kids Online Safety Act,) allows state attorneys to censor the internet. Do we really want Republican state lawyers deciding what can and can’t be allowed online? w need a bill that actually protects children by creating better security measures instead of more censorship and surveillance.
What parent would want their child’s private data in the hands of strangers like this? Do NOT support this package. Thank you.”
