Sleuth 1972 downright revels in the homoerotic tension between its characters. There’s the machismo, the mental jousting and games playing, but then there’s Andrew’s fixation on Milo's body and what it represents to him as a white passing second generation immigrant. Maybe the most impressive part of it is how openly all of this is discussed by the characters.
Sleuth is just so aware of what it’s saying on every level and is so comfortable with it. As it juggles wild tone shifts and plot twists. Yes it says, this nationalist's obsessive hate of the bodies of men not like him is really sexually charged in itself. The rituals of masculinity and humiliation are also very sexually charged. This whole thing is a bit gay isn’t it? It says.
It's also a story that puts on a silly clown costume. And you’re like huh ok show me more.
i don't know what older adults were on about when they said being a teenager was good <3
I’d die on the hill that “stranger danger” is a deeply unhelpful mentality to have. “Ooooh everyone is out to get me they’re all gonna perpetrate harm that’s actually more likely to come from someone I already know. I better never talk to anyone in my community who I don’t already know, just to be safe. I’m sure there are no other biases interwoven with this mentality” like oh my god human traffickers do not just randomly spawn in every parking lot. You don’t have to go solo hitchhiking across the country but you also don’t have to live in fear that every guy on the street is the knife man who’s gonna get you. Like have situational awareness, yeah. But most of the time the guy on the street is not knife man he’s actually just a guy on the street and he’s probably pretty chill, and you’re driving yourself crazy by living in a constant state of unnecessary fear.
Like always safety comes first, especially if you’re in a marginalized group more likely to be targeted by random people around you. But that’s different from stranger danger. I might even say that stranger danger is something that contributes to marginalized groups getting targeted by random people. Which strangers do you find distrust worthy? Why? Does vague distrust justify harmful actions in the name of self defense? Stranger danger draws everyone away from more important issues of safety (underlying bigotries, systemic injustices, abuse in the home, etc) and towards an amorphous boogeyman that has no solution, because it’s not the real cause or culprit.

Here’s my full piece for the “Classics but Make it Gay” zine which Kickstarter has officially launched now! 😳✨
when i look up a knitting term, the last thing I want is an ai overview. I want a 60+ year old woman with no understanding of lighting or helpful camera angles who still manages to give the most concise and clear explanation of how to execute purl 2tog through the backloop. ai summary fuck off, where is phyllis?
I don’t care how they’re marketed, these things are not wheelchair accessible, especially for large power chairs.
ID: a yellow and black plastic cable cover which is approximately 5-10cm tall with steep sides and looks like a small speed bump /end ID
Every time I go over one I need someone to help hold my chair and get me over it. Even with that support it hurts like Hell and has caused whiplash injuries for me in the past. It’s also very unsafe for others because even with support I cannot 100% control the angle my chair will end up lurching over it (and my chair weighs over 150kg without me in it so it’s not something you want to collide with). It’s also terrifying and makes noises that make me very concerned for my chair’s structural integrity.
If you want your event to actually be accessible to wheelchair users then consider using something more like this:
ID: the same kind of cable cover but it’s fitted with a much shallower ramp with the international symbol of access embossed on the black plastic. The ramps are about a foot long on either side of the cover /end ID
$452,288/2 br/1000 sq ft

another teacher grace moment i love is when rocky gives him the oxygen model he goes 'i dont have one of these thank you!' like that is THE most teacher response ever when a child gives them something utterly incomprehensible but made with love

I have been going to the national archives about once or twice a season for the last two years, and there’s never once been a chair near this sign
there's something just amazing about john gaius being all "i saved the world, but not for me", blatantly riffing off of lord of the rings, which no one will ever call him on, bc he's the only person who remembers lord of the rings. to make matters worse better more, he's not even quoting the book. he's quoting the movie. so lame, you think, and then you remember where the movies were filmed and about the hobbit tax and the maōri stuntpeople who only ever got to play "evil ugly" orcs and easterlings and all of that and oh boy it's all connected here isn't it
but it also is unambiguously hilarious of him to compare himself to frodo. it's like if frodo set out to destroy sauron but orcs kept trying to arrest the fellowship and call him a charlatan on the middle earth news or whatever and also halfway through he gets hit up by gondor and they tell him that denethor just died and they need him to use the ring to reanimate his corpse and he just does it. and in the end frodo loses it and destroys all of middle earth except sauron who runs away on a spaceship
wait hold up i'm back. i was going to be all "how dare you stand where he stood" but then i remembered what actually happened, famously, to frodo: he failed at the last step. he claimed the ring. (he just was lucky gollum happened to be there and disaster was averted.) he tried very hard, but in the end, he just couldn't do what he'd set out to do. sure yeah i can maybe see how jod would relate to that
Perhaps also relevant:
Gollum's last moments before descending under the Misty Mountains:
After Frodo begins experiencing possessiveness for the Ring:
And John, and C— and N—'s wedding:
