highgarden was always at its most gorgeous in summer , but elinor redwyne struggled to appreciate it in the full heat of the noon sun . slipping away from the fete , now in full swing in the gardens , she hid herself away in a quiet , shaded corridor, in the hopes of cooling down .

“ summer is always so hateful away from the sea , ” she murmured to herself , briefly homesick for the cool breeze that swept over the arbor on days like these , but her reverie was soon disturbed by the sound of approaching footsteps .

the sound of florian’s voice instantly improved elinor’s mood . the heat of the day forgotten she laughed and wrapped him in a short embrace .

“ florian mooton ! ” she exclaimed , “ it’s been far too long indeed . ”

it was a little over two years ago , when florian and his companions first came to the arbor , landing in ryamsport , which elinor had made her official residence . what was initally meant as a short visit became a tour of the island , and a friendship had grown between them that had been sustained by letters in the intervening years . letters where not , however any subsitute for real conversation though , as far as elinor was concerned .

“Oh!” she murmured out loud, when accidentally stumbling upon another already taking shelter there. “If you’d rather be alone, I can move away somewhere else,.. however, if you’d be alright with sharing the place, I’d be much grateful my lady. This is one of my favourite places to take refuge at as well.” It was perfectly situated with a picturesque view of the hills and and streams sloping down. 

“ your grace ! ” elinor exclaimed , spinning to face the queen and bobbing a curtsey so quickly and deeply that she nearly stumbled and fell , “ of  course we can share . this is your home after all . i was only hiding from the sun for a short while . ”

elinor turned to look out at the view , admiring it as she had not when she had first ducked into this spot . the gardens of highgarden were spread out before them , and beyond it were the rolling hills and rivers of the reach . it was peaceful and picturesque , but sheltered from the rest of the grounds . the perfect place to take some time away from the chaos of the capitol .
