obsessed with kris using things the player can't see to communicate with other characters. drawing on the window in the diner. 80% as much honey on toast as usual. silly faces and nodding/shaking their head. changing the tone of what we make them say to make it clear that they mean it differently. i love that it's shown time and time again that kris ISN'T apathetic about anything. kris wants friends. kris has boundaries and wants mom to know that what she did made them feel bad. kris wants the people in their life to be happy and kris wants affection. i love kris deltarune

i'm obsessed with "mage gray" as a beloved moniker. for one thing because it's given so little page time and is very clearly taken less seriously than the other facets of his personality, even though fitz does try to tie it in sometimes ("a part of him is the fool :D a part of him is lord golden :) a part of her is amber :/ and i guess he's also mage gray")

but also i don't think "mage" is a term used anywhere else in the series and that's so hilarious to me. magic is such a definite, carefully limited force throughout the story and so i'm left to imagine that a "mage" is someone you would only see in literature, just like in the real world

I think the funniest thing Toby Fox could do is not have Papyrus show up in Deltarune at all and then in the post credits after you you beat the game you'd see a message appear that says "you can now play with Papyrus" and then he'd be retroactively inserted into every single chapter like some kind of new game+

the fact that asriel keeps love letters to december in his dresser at home and that kris has read them is one of the saddest reveals of the chapter and it happens in the first couple of minutes

first is the obvious tragedy that the letters not only went undelivered, but were left behind completely. asriel did not take them with him. he didn't destroy them. his hope, his regret, his memory... all of that can live in this in-between state that your family's house becomes at this stage in life — not quite home, yet not quite left behind. like your little sibling. kris can look after them

because of course kris has read them. they shared this tiny room with their brother who they miss like a fish flopping on the beach misses water, and he left so much behind. what he left behind is more than they've ever given themself. it's shameful, and they would never admit it to anyone, but yes, they've read them

but i think what's most interesting to me is that those letters have been there the whole time, and only now do they acknowledge them. it's this vulnerable moment where they're too exhausted not to be bitter and resentful, not just to us, but to themself. "oh, my brother's drawer is soooo interesting to you? you just have to see what's inside??"

i think it makes the moment where kris opens asriel's door in queen's palace and refuses to look at what's inside all the more interesting. did they find the will to resist this window into his mind only because they wanted to refuse it to us? on their own, would they have looked?

or is it not about us at all? do they regret reading those letters? are they ashamed? those $5 sat in asriel's drawer for however many months he's been away and despite having almost nothing in their own pockets, they had not touched it.
