“i don’t see how surefour has done anything wrong. horny on main isn’t a crime”
sure but like. openly talking about what kind of women you’re into or saying things like “i stare at women all day” and “girls in knee high socks will be the death of me” may seem innocuous but given surefours history of openly talking about masturbating on stream and how he hates being a virgin really shines a light on the fact that he says these things while looking at women through a sexual lense.
like cool we all do it sometimes but being public about it makes women really uncomfortable. knowing surefour is asking for pretty women’s social media accounts comes across like all he’s doing is searching for more women to jack off to and like that’s a big yikes y'all! especially given he’s 24 and would, ideally, know better! if you don’t seem how it’s harmful to ask women to not speak up about being uncomfortable by it - i’m not sure how to convince you at this point.
Surefours gotten away with it for so long and maybes it’s because he’s more conventionally attractive than most esports players. or because some people enjoy his humor or maybe even just bc he’s white but it doesn’t make it okay!! it isn’t okay!! no player should use their public profile in this way.
honestly op ty for this cause alarm bells went off in my head when he asked for beautiful women on twitter followed by a “uwu if you ever have problems dm me” like its no secret he’s got tons of followers that are women & even if he’s genuinely not trying to be malicious he’s gotta be way more aware about how creepy this comes off.
geguri messes with dafran and straight up REFUSES to let him headshot her
well that’s disappointing to say the least
God I really am so fucking angry. I really am. Nobody believes women in esports endure backlash and abuse. Now every time a woman tries to get involved, her harassment will be justified with “We’re just trying to make sure it isn’t another Ellie situation!”
Women already have to go through hoops to be recognized as good players (and that goes for trans women too, even if they were playing/streaming before they came out!). What, are we gonna have to provide our birth certificates now? Sing, dance, do facecams and handcams and detail our past history so people believe we’re real? Respond immediately to every question? Talk constantly in our games? We shouldn’t HAVE to constantly prove we’re real people who are good at a game!! We shouldn’t HAVE to go through hoops!!
But nobody believes us until a BRAVE MAN stands up to endure the ABUSE that women don’t receive until he says they do.

monte is the worst anime villain ive seen. no character development, no believable motivations, no sympathetic backstory. Sad!

You’re post also makes me think about video games in general and how, at the end of the day, it can be kinda painful to exist in those spaces in general? If that makes any sense? Like for many of us we have to constantly push back against an enormous amount of toxicity, racism, sexism, and homophobia just to exist in those communities and sometimes it makes me wonder if there’s like even a point lol like idk if it’ll ever change? Will gamers ever stop being shitty?? Tune in next week to find out
lol yeah, i know what you mean. i think it’s one of the hardest parts of not just being a fan, but a part of any community. we want fandom, hobbies, things (and people) we enjoy to be safe places for escape, not a reminder of a society that already deems our rights conditional.
i honestly can’t tell you if it’ll change, and i don’t have any theories because it feels so tied to an entire societal change. but i think what you’re feeling is valid, and at the very least, i can promise that some gamers are not shitty, from the rando in teamchat that’ll unintentionally say the right thing, to people in the industry who are trying to create actual change
ur last two posts are such a huge mood its exactly always why i always tried to avoid "Real People Fandoms" in the past and while i love owl sometimes i wish i'd avoided this one too because the Ethics are just....messy LOL
LOL yeah, i think there’s something exceptionally.... for lack of a better word, risky, about any fandom that puts real people on a pedestal. especially privileged people without pr managers lol.
we can try to, like, stan ethically, and i think it’s a worthwhile gesture, but i’m always unsure if it amounts to anything. should we be taking into account how many followers someone has? how often they retweet certain subjects, or like them, and the frequency with which they appear on people’s TLs? how do we even begin to quantify how much harm or good some gamer has put into the world
i don’t think trying to be conscious about who you support is bad, and i think we’ve moved past holding up shallow gestures of acceptance as the pinnacle of gamer activism, but i also don’t think we’re going to have a clear answer any time soon
