From our first board meeting in 1993 to nine unique grand openings (Union Station East, the B, C, D, E, K and L rail lines and the G and J bus rapid lines), we've been busy over the past 30 years building more options for Angelenos to get around. A few nuances we couldn't squeeze into this thirty seconds, for those of you with eagle eyes: When the D (Purple) Line opened in 1996, it was initially part of the B (Red) Line. Ten years later, that leg of the line, running underneath Wilshire Boulevard, was turned into its own distinct line (and three sections of extensions are currently under construction; eventually it will run the distance between Union Station and Westwood). The three new stations in downtown -- Little Tokyo, Historic Broadway and Bunker Hill/Grand Av Arts (collectively known as the Regional Connector) -- are slated to open very, very soon and will profoundly impact our rail system by creating direct connections between East LA and Santa Monica and between Azusa and Long Beach.
