Self-driving cars should have indicators on or in them that can indicate to its observers its intended behaviors and what it has 'noticed'.
With human drivers, outside observers can predict upcoming vehicular behavior by reading the cars "body language" or by the driver making indicators with their hands; "go ahead," "I'm angry and likely to drive recklessly and dangerously," "you go first," "I'm impatient and inconsiderate," "I see you and am factoring you into my decision making."
It's incredibly important, *especially* for pedestrians, byciclists, motorcyclists, and other people not protected by tons of steel, to know what the large and powerful machines around them are doing and what they will do. There are so many tiny, subtle (and not so subtle) signals you need to be constantly aware of and looking out for.
Electric vehicles don't "intuitively" react and project to their surroundings - everything is formulaically calculated and completely invisible to outside observers unless *specifically* projected.
And you can't make eye-contact with a car to confirm that, yes, the driver has seen you and will not accidentally kill you as you cross in front of them.
