Don't Stress, We're Too Blessed.

For the first time in my nursing career, I left work 2 hours late. It was one of the busiest and most hectic shifts I've ever done. The dreaded 1930hrs. Everything happened at the exact same time. I wanted to neck myself. Here's the run down: -Came back from my break at 1930hrs. - Patient one needed a peg feed and bloods done at 1930hrs. -1930hrs is the ideal time to start 2000 meds because one of the nurses' motto is "better early than late". So that's for each patient and I had 4. -new admission came in @ 1930hrs. -theatre called and one of my patients needed to go surgery and has been fasting from midnight for the morning list but since it was the weekend, she got pushed back due to prioritising emergency surgeries and they called for her. At 1930hrs. I needed to go down with her because it's the weekend and during the evening. By this time, I was trying to figure out how to kill myself. I have never been so stressed. I've always thought that whenever I asked for help, I felt incompetent? But that isn't the case at this stage. There was only one of me and a million things to do. I am not superwoman though I wish I was. Sometimes, you just gotta know when to ask for help and you'll realise that they are more than happy to help you out. Nursing is all about teamwork, I knew that from the get go. I guess I gotta get use to delegating things to other nurses who aren't so busy so I wouldn't be buried alive. I mean, they ask for my help and I don't mind, so why can't I do the same?
