haha these are all songs on my iPod that would randomly come on and I’d just be like: jesus fucking christ it’s them. 

i only have like 2 out of them on my phone i'm the same. or whenever one pops up on youtube for me.

"Hm?" He asked, momentarily distracted by driving and having heard her laugh. Oh good, they were actually getting somewhere with this whole conversation thing. Plus, it was nice to hear her laugh.

She couldn't really imagine him to be one of those persons who would get a message like this, so she was a little surprised when his answer was yes, but with his explanation it made much more sense. "And the mystery os solved," she smiled. "It must have been a terrifying few hours before she found you though. How old were you then exactly?" she asked, not really sure why she did it, but the words were out before she even realised what she was doing, and this was a lot better then sitting in an awkward silence, right?

He could vaguely recall that concept when his little brother made him read to him from various books. That was a while ago. He nodded absently as she spoke about it, letting her talk. Suddenly another memory sparked in him at all this. “I think I once knew a girl that would sit at school and send people messages basically saying that Ammut would eat their hearts because they were such terrible people…it was a frightening time to be at that school. Especially when she didn’t even exclude the new comers.”

She couldn't help but laugh at the story he told her, even though it probably wasn't that funny for young Eli, or anyone who got a message from that girl. She could easily imagine the little girl sending these kind of messages to anyone who even said one bad thing about her or just looked at her in the wrong way though. "Have you ever got a message like this?" she asked looking at him for a second.

"Very nice," Eli nodded appreciating that. Personally he’d never really gone all too far into Egyptian mythology, like she said it wasn’t popular, but then again he’d never really gone for Greek or Roman. In fact he was never really a history kid at all, given that he’s a cancer carer, he was more the health studies kid who occasionally dabbled in gaming, but he’d try and roll with it. Turning the wheel to change lanes he continued. "What…uh what’s your favourite story from what you’ve studied?" Genuine intrigue. There was something about people’s stories and people’s favourite stories that he couldn’t help but want to hear.

She didn't even have to think about the answer as she spoke. "Probably Anubis'," she said. "He was assosiated with with the mummification and protection of the dead for their journey into the afterlife, and according to legend he was the one who put the dead's heart on a balance scale. If it was heavier then the Pen of Truth, Ammut ate the heart," she explained. There was something in the story of every man having his or her life on a true balance, deciding whether or not it was good that she found fascinating.

He admired the fact that she didn’t dig, if he was honest. Personally he couldn’t help but dig a little, but that happens when curiosity is your biggest trait. “Ancient history…I can see the pull. Greek, Roman, Norse or Egyptian?” he asked. He new only a few things about each of them, but it was something to talk about. They were both quite eager to avoid falling into a deadened silence.

"Egyptian," she answered. She knew that wasn't the most common choice, anytime somebody said Ancient History, people usually assosiated that with either the Greek or the Roman history, and as much as she loved those as well, she always found them a bit boring and uverrated. That's why she didn't choose any of them in the end. "It's not the most popular choice, but I love it."

Pulling out of the drive way he began driving in the direction of her school, smiling contently at the news she’d slept well. He wasn’t sure exactly what kind of effects cancer could have on her yet, but she was totally honest with him at least and he could tell. She didn’t have the same dark circles as he did. She was lucky, then. He laughed when she asked him the same, a sarcastic clip to his voice. “Slept like a baby. You know, the annoying ones that cry all night and can’t decide on a feeding schedule.” He remembered this one time when he was babysitting for his uncle and god, he didn’t mind children at all but they were so very tiring. Not to worry though, he always slept like that. He’s never really had a sound sleep in his life. Ah well. “So what courses are you taking?” It wasn’t so much small talk now as it was curiosity. What went on in that head of hers that she kept somewhat silent?

She smiled at his comment about sleeping like a baby, but didn't push it further. The fact that he could make fun of his own sleeping meant that this was a normal thing for him or wasn't actually that bad as he said it. Either way, she didn't want to dig too deep into the reasons why was this the case. "History, ancient history to be more specific," she answered him. "I've always loved the legends about the Gods and their powers and their society and it just kind of sucked me in," she explained before she even realised that she probably said more then she ever intended.

When the door opened Eli jumped a little and greeted Ariel with a smile. “Mornin’,” he said simply, giving her sister a wave as she popped her head briefly out before walking away and opening the car door for her to put her stuff down and hop in. Part of him was a little nervous as, most of the time he didn’t drive people anywhere and if he did it wasn’t always in his car, usually there’s. And it was his comfort place so it felt a little like intrusion. However, it was lucky that the common act of courtesy of opening a door for someone also felt like an invitation. “Sleep well?” he asked casually as he climbed in to his side.

She gave him a small smile as a thank you for opening the door for the passenger seat and climbed into the car. "Yeah, I did," she nodded. SLeeping was something she never really had problem with; she could sleep through basically anything if she was sleeping deep enough, and the best thing about it was that it was dreamless. Yes, that meant no funny dreams she could share with her friends while she was younger, but also meant no nightmares, which she was really greatful for. "You?" she asked back as she looked at him. Not that she couldn't have answered the question herself. If there was one thing she was sure about was that Eli did not look like somebody who had a good night sleep. This small chitchat was better though then a possible awkward silence, which she really wanted to avoid.

Tsk, tsk driving when tired. His mother would be ashamed if she could see him now. But he couldn’t help it, he was to pick Ariel up and then take her to college and whatever else she required; he even remotely looked forward to it. Somewhat. It’d help if she was a little more compliant than she had been, but given what she was going through he didn’t feel the need to complain about it. It’d also help if he could stop his mind racing at all hours of the night, keeping him awake as well as awakening him on and off periodically.

She was just about to finish filling up her portable coffee mug when she heard the knock on the door and then three, two, one, "Ariel, have you heard the door?" her sister came into the kitchen with a huge stash of papers in her hands. Ariel wondered how did she ever find time to take her to everywhere she needed - she was always late from something and was running somewhere, still, she managed to find some time in her crazy schedule for Ariel too. Yeah, Eli's help probably was a great idea - nott hat she'd ever say this out loud. She was too stubborn for that.

The sound of the alarm on the nightstand woke Ariel up, just like it did every day, and groaning she rolled on her other sideto turn it off. She hated those days when she had a class early in the morning mostly because of the waking up, and she always played with the thought of just closing her eyes once again and going back to sleep, but that never happend. She either would have felt too guilty afterwards, or she couldn't even do it, because one of her sisters would realise she's still in her room and wake her up, what was the point in trying to do it anyway then?

"Alright, tomorrow," he nodded, shifting himself in his coat to get comfy as he headed towards the door. He liked saying tomorrow with someone, it was like a sort of promise, not just to them that you’d see them, but also that there’d be a tomorrow. No way to promise that there would be a tomorrow, but it certainly made you want it. As he saw himself out he nodded to her and said a goodbye to her father and sister, closing it behind him and leaving him be. Outside he took a deep breath and smiled, trudging quickly over to the car so he could get home, his hone burning hot in his pocket as he waited for the text that would come tomorrow morning. Why so impatient? Because of the simple word tomorrow. 

Ariel followed him to the door and after he closed the door behind himself, she took the time to lock it and put the key back to it's place. She was very much aware of her father and sister behind her and even though the book on her bed was so tempting, one part of her just wanted to go up, close the door behind herself, curl up in her bed and read until she finishes it, avoiding the talk that everyone knew was about to happen, but she didn't. The other part of her was still angry at her father and her sister for not telling anything to her and wanted answers. So she turned around and asked the one question Eli couldn't give an answer to while without even noticing it her hand went into her pocket and her fingers found the card he gave her.

Eli knew, even after such little time knowing her, that she wasn’t in total agreance with what he said and if he was honest he thought that was great. He’d had a fair few patients who essentially just went with everything he said and didn’t even question their own ideas. He thought about what she asked and scratched the back of his neck as he thought. It was funny how when the topic of the question was left totally open he had nothing to say. He just…went blank. It was uncommon, but, weird in itself how it happened. “I don’t think so. Kind of spent for tonight. Was there anything else you wanted to ask tonight?"

She shook her head as an answer. "Nope, no more question for tonight." After a short pause between them, while she unfolded her hands, she gave him a small smile. "See you tomorrow morning then, I guess." She still didn't know how she exactly felt about this - no, she knew exactly how she felt about it, but there was no way she would have said anything about it. Her family helped her as much as possible, if she could take some of the resposibilities away from them, she would do it.

He listened to her ramble on and it made him smile. Nerves perhaps? Going wild trying to connect things and make sense of it? He let her talk, he liked to just listen sometimes and it was sort of…fascinating how she wheeled about with her words. “You’re right, I can’t answer that. I can only guess as much as you can. I have had other parents unable to say it…something to do with guilt that time I think but yeah. It’s them you’ll have to ask."

"Maybe you're right, it's probably just guilt," she said agreeing, though if she had to be the one thinking of a reason, she would have probably said it was because they didn't want her to have a chance of saying no. Her family let her do a lot of things because of her illness and they didn't say a thing about it, but she could see that this was something that was not up for discussion even though Eli made it into her decision alone. "Anyway," she shook her head slightly again, "was there anything else you wanted to talk about?"

He reached up and adjusted his collar, taking note of the folding her arms movement which he was fairly sure was defensive. He considered her question and nodded along trying to construct the answer in his head. “I thought about it. But. I kind of hoped your family would tell you before I came. I didn’t really feel like it was my place to say if your parents hadn’t. At least not until I had no choice but to speak up."

"I understand that," she nodded, "but didn't you think that I already knew? I mean, you must have already knew about it for a couple of days now, otherwise you couldn't accept Patrick's offer, but if you knew that means my family knew as well and that gave plenty of time for them to tell me. Unless, of course, you've seen other families that haven't told the ill person that they were assigned a carer, which I highly doubt, actually, but..." She stopped, took a deep breathe, and closing her eyes for a second she shook her head. "No, you know what? Just forget about it, it doesn't matter. The real question is why they didn't say anything to me, not why you didn't say anything to me anyway, and I'm pretty sure you can't answer that to me."
