Since PlayStation is currently self-sabotaging themselves, I'll give my thoughts on where I think things are headed next generation. First off, the PlayStation 6 is going to bomb at launch. Not "bomb" in the sense that no one will buy it, because there are people who will - it'll be shiny new tech after all, but it'll have the lowest and smallest install base of of any console launch in history. And not just because of the price. Everything that's been happening over the past six years, and what will follow hereafter, will contribute to this.
They're going to have a hard time trying to market that thing to people. As if I've said before, hardware and performance doesn't win people over anymore. It's expected. Not to mention the price alone will turn people away if its anywhere near $1,000. The real challenge will be player migration - getting people to migrate over to the PS6. There are still people who REFUSE to leave the PS4 and given recent events, it's going to stay that way. Same for the people with the PS5. There will be no incentive for people to crossover. I'm not paying $1,000 for a new console that's likely 5%-10% better than what I have. Simply living is beyond affordable right now. Shit is not cheap.
Their decision to end production of physical games has done more damage to the PS6 than they could've imagined. It's obvious by this point that the PS6 will be digital-only which not only fucks over people who collect physical games, but alienates a portion of their customers internationally. We haven't gotten to a point where internet is 100% globally. There are still countries that have zero or poor internet. How are they supposed to play and buy games now? Fuck them, I guess?
Then, there's the PS5 Pro which till this day I believe was unnecessary. The fact that the Pro exists is enough to prevent people from wasting their money on a PS6 especially when there will hardly even be a noticeable gap between them. If people need a new PlayStation, they'll like just opt for the PS5 Pro assuming it'll be a slightly (and I mean ever so slightly) cheaper option by then. It'll still have a disc drive until they stop producing them. And trust me, that's definitely going to happen.
The only thing they can rely on is games and if it's portable. But being portable won't help either. There are too many options plus they're not outdoing Nintendo in their own space. They tried before. That leaves games. And games will be VERY important next generation. They can't repeat what they did with the PS5. We were stuck in a global pandemic. The world literally stopped for a couple years. They can't reboot and remaster their way out. They'll need new games.
Given the current climate, gaming will be dominated by live-service and indies. Most of those games are available everywhere. All they'll have left is their doomed-to-fail live-service initiative and whatever PlayStation Studios is able to put out. Even then, things are bleak. Development cycles of AAA games are only going to get longer and more costly. So, you're likely not to see many AAA games coming next gen. They'll have to invest in any partnerships they can and/or go heavy with indies.
Even then, with they way things are, what game development studio in their right mind would WANT to be acquired now? You're telling me that a studio I and my team built over the course of several years can get shut down within the blink of an eye? And I have no say in it? Nah, fuck that. You buggin'. I'd rather risk being independent and failing because at least then I can end it on my own terms. I can only imagine the amount of distrust that studios have for publishers right now.
The PlayStation 6 is in a lose-lose situation. It's likely going to get to a point where they'll have to rebrand it within two years of it's life cycle. Do I hope any of this happens? No, but this is what it's looking like. Like I said, this next generation will be a humbling experience not just for PlayStation but the entire gaming industry. Everything is changing.
โThe โXboxโ brand is going to be phased out and replaced with Microsoft Gaming over the next ten years. It wonโt happen immediately though. There will still be another Xbox in 2028-29, but itโll be the last Microsoft gaming console called an โXboxโ. โ...Next is the Activision-Blizzard merger. I think theyโre beginning to feel the aftereffects of that now. I wouldnโt be surprised if within the next five-ten years they start auctioning off IP and studios.โ โWith game development costs ballooning to unimaginable heights, chip and RAM shortages and many other factors, theyโll cut their losses wherever they can. Same goes for PlayStation.โ

I wrote this a couple months ago and look at what's happening now. Thing is, I've had this feeling for years. Many others have felt the same. The writing has always been on the wall. It's just gotten to the point we can't ignore it. And no, PlayStation ain't off the hook either. What I'll say is this: they better not reveal that damn PS6 this year (especially after the current fiasco) because if they do, man...
West Village // Instagram
Everything that's happening with PlayStation and Xbox right now isn't the least bit shocking to me. During the ABK merger, I had a feeling things would go left in the industry within a few years. Without a doubt, AI is killing the tech industry which is in turn killing the gaming industry. But it was always going to get to this point regardless. The rising costs of game development, diminishing returns in graphics, performance and hardware, questionable anti-consumer practices, unnecessary mergers, a steadily worsening economy, etc. And this is stuff that's been going on for years. This shit is not new.
What we're seeing now is an industry imploding in on itself. The news about PlayStation discontinuing disc production is part of a long string of destructive decisions (including studio closures, layoffs, etc.) which could ultimately lead to another Video Game Crash. And aside from AI, PlayStation will to be at the forefront of it.
Not Xbox. Not Nintendo. PlayStation.
If that PlayStation 6 launches next year anywhere near or over $1,000 then it's a wrap. That's going to be a VERY humbling experience not just for Sony, but the entire gaming industry. There is no competition. Xbox is one more fuck up away from being slowly phased out over the course of a decade. Nintendo doesn't compete because they don't have to. That leaves us with PlayStation. And if you're the ONLY industry leader left in console gaming, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
Consumers and customers will remind you every single time: you need them more than they need you. And I think that's a hard lesson that will be learned in the next generation if the gaming industry doesn't course correct. Unfortunately, I think we've passed the point of no-return.
Games are going to be very important next generation. You can't wow people with hardware and performance anymore. It's expected now. You're going to see significantly less AAA games release. Live service, gacha, and indies are going to dominate. You see this happening now. This generation will be the end of traditional gaming.
Everything is changing.

OBSERVATIONS: KH MISSING LINK BETA# II
Guess what's finally back? Well, the title above gives it away. I know I'm late but it is what it is. It feels good to be writing these posts again. Below are a few quick notes and observations I wrote down as I was watching the few cutscenes that are in the beta.
โ Could Ephemer be speaking to the Player in the Heart Station? โ The Founders personally deal with Drifters? Hmm. I'm very interested in the Founders. I think they're hiding something and these "drifters" are somehow related to whatever it is. โ The Keyblade societies actively dispatch guardians to the patrol astral plane to prevent Heartless from invading Scala. Again, given my suspicion about the founders hiding something, I wonder if something else is there? โ Also, there are two (likely opposing) factions and bloodline-based classism? Sort of like a "Haves and Have-Nots" situation? Hmm. โ Dive station seems is a hub for world traversal via corridors? Similar to Game Central Station? There was a portal beneath that giant hollow before the Player goes on their first mission. Maybe that's what's supposed to be? Would be more interesting if it was like Game Central Station. โ Residents use rifts (corridors) to travel instead of tram/lift. โ Dark corridors referred to as distortions? โ There are no inhabitants in the astral plane, but Heartless reside/congregate there?? It's believed that the Heartless come to Scala to consume hearts because there are no living beings there. โ Astral plane referred to as a world (realm) made up of mental energies. Could be a chaotic realm? Or it could be that, due to a possible link to the mind and/or memory, the realm can conjour up anything from a person's mind, heart, memory, or even imagination and make them a reality (or illusions)? Of course, this would only be possible within the astral plane - unless there's a way for these illusions to leave and escape into reality - hence the chaotic realm. โ Speaking of that, I wonder if there's a way to harness mental energy from the astral plane and use it in combat/magic? Could explain how Sora does what he does in the KH4 trailer. Basically, using the energy from his mind, memory, and imagination to conjure up various constructs and strange powers? Actually, I wonder if that's what Yozora is doing during his battle with Sora in Re:Mind? Could explain why he's able to jack Sora's keyblade and use it. Hmm. โ Could Quadratum be a manifestation of someone's wish/desire [for a world devoid of light and darkness] conjured up by the astral plane? If so, then who created it? Was it the Master of Masters? Or someone else? That could mean that Quadratum is in the astral plane (which would go in line with what Strelitzia was saying in the KH4 trailer). If that's the case, then Ansem (in spite of his stupid-ass explanation of what Quadratum is) might not have been too far off the mark. โ Still suspicious about this version of Scala ad Caelum. I've written about this before but I think this Scala still exists in the present, and the one that was introduced in KH3/DR was a replica. If so, then this Scala has probably been cut off from the world for centuries for some reason (hence the whole "blank period" and being forgotten). If what I said above happens to be true, and this is assuming this "OG Scala" was destroyed, was it reconstructed in the astral plane similar to Quadratum? That'd mean it spawned from someone's mind, memory, or imagination (hopes, desire, or wishes). That again bears the question of who? Sigurd, perhaps? This could support my belief that Sigurd is the one standing next to the Master of Masters in the KH4 trailer โ not Luxu.
And that's that. I might elaborate on some of these observations at some point. Not too much in terms of story in this beta (well, from what I've seen so far). I'm very curious about this game's story and lore. Definitely keeping up with it once the game is out next year (hopefully).
Hypothesis โ Another Scala ad Caelum
Ever since the initial reveal of KHML and the technical test that was released earlier this year, Iโve had this sneaking suspicion that there are two Scala ad Caelums โ the original and the replica. Not only that but I also think the one weโve seen up until now (i.e., the Scala ad Caelum from KHIII and KHDR) is the replica. But it doesnโt end there. After I saw some of the screenshots from the KHML technical test, and remembered that Sigurd was the voice from the KHIV/KHML trailers, a thought popped into my mind โWhat if this Scala ad Caelum is in Quadratumโs universe?โ The more I thought about it, the more it started to make sense.
At the end of KHUX, we got the flashback of the Elder Player taking Xehanort from his mother. If you look back at that scene, youโll notice that it takes place in KHMLโs Scala ad Caelum (the original). But for some reason, when Xehanort returns to Scala years later, he arrives in the replica. I doubt Scala wouldโve undergone such drastic changes within fifteen years. Itโs possible that the Elder Player time traveled with infant Xehanort. Another possibility would be that the main storyline of KHUX is being rehashed for KHML. And considering how much Nomura likes to do that, I wouldnโt write that off. Lastly, the KHML Scala could be another set of islands in a more developed part of the world.
Now, why would there be two Scala ad Caelums? Letโs assume for a moment that Ephemer somehow discovered Quadratumโs universe. In an effort to keep the line of keyblade wielders going and, much like the Master of Masters did with Data Daybreak, Ephemer created a replica/backup of the original Scala. Instead of placing the replica in Quadratumโs universe, he transported the original Scala (using the power of waking, maybe?) to Quadratumโs universe. This is a stretch but letโs assume that happened. It would explain why Xehanort didnโt return to the original. It also strengthens his ties to Quadratum.
To end this off, Iโll just say that Iโm one of the few people that thinks the person standing next to the Master of Masters in the KHIV trailer is Sigurd โ not Luxu. So, another Scala ad Caelum existing would make sense in that regard. Personally, I think Luxu and the Foretellers are still in the KH universe. Thatโs all I have to say though. There are some other things that potentially points to this being possible (the skull & bones symbol on Yozoraโs clothing, Toy Box, etc.). All of that is simply conjecture though. What do you think about all of this?
Honestly i feel like I wouldnt feel so upset about the possibility of Skuld not being Subject X if the current options didnt seem like
"shes subject X and gets story relevance and importance!!!"
And
"She was literally written out of the story hope you enjoyed her while it lasted"
It feels like she HAS to be subject X because otherwise she was just forgotten in the attic. That's not the case for someone like Ava. Ava has a chance of story relevance without having to be subject X. It doesnt feel like that for skuld
And the role just fits her so well and opens the door to so many interesting possibilities and interactions. Its a shame if they just throw her in the attic when theres so much you can do with her
KHIV N.D. '26 TRAILER OBSERVATIONS
โ The female hooded figure, who I'm going to assume is Subject X for now, was the highlight of the trailer for me. For those who've either played or watched the story for KHX (or read through the secret reports in KHIII and the Character Files book), this is very interesting. As for WHO that is? I'm still holding on to that being Skuld, but we'll see. โ As expected, the reason Light and Darkness manifested in Quadratum is because of the people from HU (Hearts' Universe). From what we know, Quadratum is a world governed by imagination and dreams so that makes sense. โ This also could mean that we'll not only be dealing with the New Organization XIII (Organization VII, maybe?), but whatever faction or force that oversees Quadratum. It seems the existence of HU people poses a significant threat to Quadratum. โ Another thing, there's definitely some significance to the Hooded Figures perched atop buildings and skyscrapers. Like a king or queen looking down from the throne in intrigue. โ That scene from the 2022 reveal was updated (the one with Sora jumping on the car and striking the Kaiju Neo Darkside). โ I wonder if saving the people in Quadratum from the Heartless will be part of the gameplay loop. Maybe there will be random encounters or side missions where you have to stop the Heartless from attacking people in various locations. This may also be how you meet new characters throughout the Quadratum portions of the game. โ I wonder who Strelitzia is with in Shibuya. Subject X, maybe? Eh, the Hooded Figure looks to be taller than her so possibly the Master of Masters or Sigurd. โ The guy in the suit... NightSkyPrince was saying he looked like Ardyn, which I can see. I went through the Dark Road character roster, and he doesn't look like any of them. So, potentially a new side villain akin to Maleficent maybe? โ There is a shot after that with a character that looks like Noctis which, I mean, everybody looks like Noctis at this point. There was a tweet [LINK] where someone said he could be Vali. He looks like him a little bit. If that's the case, then maybe we'll see the upperclassmen here. If so, then Vidar and Vor better fuckin' be in this game. โ Cor Leonis *ahem Luxord just chillin'. โ The Master of Masters in a graveyard? And black feathers falling from the sky? Yeah, I can already hear the music lol. I'm joking but I wonder if the concept of "fallen angels" will be explored. The Master of Masters definitely embodies the concept of a fallen angel. โ I see Hades is still torturing Donald and Goofy lol. โ And now we get to another huge thing, YXehanort. So, this is the 14th life he mentioned. This opens up the door for A LOT things and I'm not sure how to feel about that yet. Then again, Quadratum is the afterlife. โ A while back, I wrote a post about whether or not YXehanort would be part of a potential Quadratum trio. I hope that's true. I wonder how Sora is going to react to him though. I hope Nomura doesn't pull some "I lost/erased my memories" shit with him. โ Combat looks more fluid and with some weight to it. Some people didn't like how light and floaty KHIII's combat was so this looks like a minor upgrade (still floaty though). The combat appears to be more Devil May Cry-like which I'm fuckin' with heavy. โ Peep the keyblade in the intersection battle shots. That's definitely proof there are Disney worlds in this game, but I think they'll take a back seat this time. Much of the story seems likely to take place in Quadratum (I hope so). โ The Kaiju Neo Darkside battle is going to be crazy. I can't wait to play it. I hope they include part of the battle in a demo (if we get one).
That's all I got for now.
Not surprised to see YXehanort there. I do wonder what his role is gonna be. Also, if he's part of Quadratum Trio man... There's so much talk about in that trailer. I'll talk about it later.

I was NOT expecting Kingdom Hearts IV to be at the Nintendo Direct. That shit caught me offguard lol. I usually don't care to watch the Nintendo Directs but something told me to watch it today. I'm relieved to see it though. Also...
I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!
You can't tell me THAT'S not WHO that is!!!!
I'm still waiting on a port of Jet Set Radio Future. It's my favorite game of all time. I don't care if doesn't have all the music. I have all the music anyway. Just give me a way to play it that doesn't involve emulating it. I have an Xbox emulator on my PC but I haven't used it in years.
In light of recent news concerning SEGA using Gen AI for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, I hope they aren't using that for the Jet Set Radio game. That would be the most tone deaf shit ever. Like, did your forget what that game is about??? I appreciate them at least being upfront about it but if they're going to do that, then they have to be very clear about their intent and usage of it. "Support tools" could literally be anything.
Maybe we'll get SOMETHING about Kingdom Hearts IV at The Game Awards later this year but... not gonna hold you, what little excitement I had left is nearly gone. Of course I'll be happy to see it (whenever that'll be) and I'll be discussing it here. I can't wait to start up my theories and observations posts again. That's the most fun I've ever had on here. But excited? Eh. I'll be more relieved than anything ("Finally..." with an apathetic sigh and eye roll).
I sincerely hope that if there's a fifth game, and there likely will be a fifth one, I won't have to wait till I'm over 40 to play it. 35 ain't that far away from some of us, man. Them 40's is creepin' up fast.
That's all I wanted today. I just wanted to see FFVII: Revelation and got MUCH more than that. Can't wait to play this next year. Also, who's looking forward to the re-imagined slap-boxing match between Tifa and Scarlet? lol.

I don't know why, but Cid's combat reminds me of Kingdom Hearts for some reason. Maybe it was him pulling off a reversal in the middle of his attacks lol.
I'm so glad it's not named Reunion. That would've been such a corny ass name.
