  At what age should I get my baby’s ears pierced?

A common belief is that ear piercing done early is best as the baby’s skin is soft and pain is far less. However, most doctors recommend piercing the ears after the second round of tetanus (DPT) vaccinations when your baby is between three to six months old. At this age your baby is better equipped to handle any unlikely infections or skin irritation.

  Will it hurt ?

No, its not as bad as a vaccination, if that’s what you have in mind. It’s like a pinch, thats how most of our clients have described it. The pain is drastically reduced as compared to the metal guns still in use. Purely because in the Inverness system of piercing there is no trigger , it works on a push mechanisim. The force is entirely controlled by the piercing professional. We also apply ‘Emla’ the numbing cream prior to piercing.

Who will be piercing my baby’s ears?

Traditionally ears were pierced by family jewellers Goldsmiths. Many Peadiatricians also practise ear piercing in thier clinics. It is best to avoid people who do not have proper equipment or staff trained to pierce your baby’s ears. At ‘KYRA’ we do ear piercing by the ‘Inverness Safe Ear Piercing System’ from the US. It is important that the piercing is done in hygienic conditions. At KYRA, you can be assured of  the most trusted equipment , fully disposable (single use only), well expierenced staff and all safety measures are kept into consideration prior to the piercing.

How much does it cost for piercing my babies ears?

At 'KYRA' we do the ear piercings FREE. All you need is to purchase the earrings or earstuds. Prices for the ear studs may vary as per the design or metal used. Prices start at as low as 100 Aed. 18k /14k Solid gold obviously being more dearer than the others. And for all your brave little angels, at KYRA they will be awarded with a cute little 'Certificate of Bravery' free , along with every piercing done.

How do I prepare myself and my baby for the piercing?

It is important that your baby is in perfect health when you get her ears pierced. Ear piercing is usually done without painkillers because the piercing itself hurts less than a shot of anaesthetic would. At ‘KYRA’ we do the piercing using the Inverness Ear piercing, that  is SAFE , GENTLE , STERILE and HYPOALERGENIC. We also use a medically approved numbing cream “EMLA” prior to the piercing. Have a pacifier / feeder bottle / toy , handy will always help to calmn the child post piercing.

While ear piercing guns are popular, we do not recommend or use the traditional metal gun. When you pull the trigger in the gun there is a spring that recoils and snaps the piercing area with force. And since this force is uncontrolled, These may leave your baby prone to infections & damage the ear lobe .  At KYRA , we only use the safest ear piercing system from Inverness where we use a specially designed staple instrument where the force is controlled by the piercer and is evidently more superior than any other mechanisim. The piercing is done at the centre of the ear lobe, avoiding the nerve and cartilage. Our experienced ear piercer has been trained and will be able to locate this spot easily. Do ensure that the practitioner washes his hands with antiseptic solution . Antiseptic / Alcohol swab should be used to clean your baby’s ear lobes. You may be anxious about how your baby will react but stay calm. Hold your baby comfortably but firmly so that her head does not move about too much while the ear is being pierced. Piercing the first lobe is usually easy, however once the lobe is pierced your baby may cry and seem irritant. Wait till she settles down , Handling a fidgety baby may be difficult for you and the practitioner may not be able to get the right position to pierce the lobe.

At KYRA, there is plenty of styles to choose from. Piercing may be done in any of the three Metal Categories

-        Medical Grade Surgical Steel.

-        Gold Plated Surgical Steel.

-        18K , 14K Solid Gold.

For first time piercings and for infants we recommend simple styles with rounded edges. Avoid styles with jagged and sharp edges for the toddlers.

  How long should I keep the ear piercing earring on for ?

4 weeks for adults and 6 weeks for infants. This is how long it will take a earlobe piercing to heal.

Can I get my own earrings for the piercing ?

No, not unless they are from Inverness. Or purchased/gifted previously at KYRA. Only inverness earrings will fit onto the piercing instrument. The earrings are fully incapsulated in individual catridges.

Do you do body piercings ?

No, we only do Ear & Nose piercings.
