Broadway Baby

When I was eleven, my mom died. And then, when I was thirteen, I got drunk a lot. And when I was seventeen…. Wait, no. I’m not seventeen yet. Almost, but not yet. Your life is much more impressive than mine. That sounds pretty fun though. You think so? I’ve never been there. The furthest East I’ve gone is Vegas, when I was 15.

Your life is still cool no matter what though because you're Hawaiian. I'd kill to have hair or skin like yours naturally. I have to tan just to look not like a vampire. Vegas, huh? I went there once for a competition when I was little but we didn't do much. Why were you there at fifteen if I may ask? 

Y-yeah. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, Mommy. I just wanted to get juice but you looked sad and I didn’t wanna bother you. You promise you’ll never, ever leave?

I super mega pinky promise I'll never leave, baby, not in a million zillion trillion years. And hey, next time you want to be Secret Agent Annie, can you at least fill me in? Some conversations shouldn't be heard by your cute little years for at least a few more years.

I dunno. There was this really big scary man trying to take you away from Mattie and me.

Awe baby, I'm sorry. Did you overhear me and Kiko talking in the kitchen? We probably turned your dreams yucky. I'm going to be just fine, okay? No big scary guy'll take me anywhere, and if he does I'll just get on my broom and fly back to you and sissy. 

I think I’d like that, yeah. You’re all welcome to come, everyone’s pretty welcoming there. Plus, it’ll be good for all of you to get out of this place. How long did you do Annie for? Or did you an apartment by yourself when you were eleven? I, um, I’d like that.

Yeah, getting away is always nice. I lived with my director and his family while I was in Annie till I was about thirteen, then I landed the lead in Matilda and lived with my fabulous vocal coach, Eliza. I was in The Lion King and The Nutcracker for a couple of years and at seventeen I got my apartment. At eighteen I auditioned for Wicked which is nuts at so young and I started out as an understudy, but by the end of the year I was Elphaba. I took a break from the whole broadway thing about a year and a half ago to really raise the girls and keep them safe. I um, enough about me. I would like that too. It seems like New York City'd be your type of city, miss rebel. 

I had a nightmare.

A nightmare? Yuck. What was it about, little bug? 

I’m only a junior, though. I’ll change it over the summer, because I was thinking that maybe, if it was okay with you, if I could go back home for a week or something. If it’s not, then I’ll change it, but right now, it’s kind of the only thing I still have from back home, and Malie’s the one who recorded it, and I miss her a lot, and yeah. That sounds fun. New York, not the whole creepy, stalker, fresh out of the slammer ex boyfriend thing. That’s awful. 

You can keep it for as long as you'd like, it was just a warning. And if you want to go back during the summer, we can arrange that. Maybe I'll come with the girls and you can spend a day or two showing us around. I um,  yeah, New York was great. I landed Annie at eleven and lived with the shows director and his family for a while before I got my own apartment. It's kind of small, but there was room for me and the girls and I love it. I'll have to show you one day.

It’s kind of hilarious, I think I’m going to start going by that from now on, actually. Yes, do that. Good.

You might want to change it, I mean, once colleges start calling you and what not, having something about sucking dick on there might make you look a little bit less appealing. Maybe I'll go out, but with Christmas and rehearsals and everything I've just been a mess. I might go up to New York for New Years Eve and see the ball drop with the girls. My apartment is still there and it's right in the middle of Times Square. It's been a tradition with them for as long as I can remember. Um, yeah, I uh, thank you, I guess. I mean, that's the reason we're up here now. He got out of prison about nine months ago and has been hiring different attorneys and trying to get custody of the girls and showing up to rehearsals and stuff. I'm hanging around here till my restraining order and all that crap settles in.

Ew, that sounds terrible. I would have punched her too. Oh, no, he’s a middle aged dude. He looks like he’s about 56, and he can’t pronounce my name. I’ve been Kay-poopoo since I moved here.

You did? Huh, never would have thought of you as violent. We were talking about all the stuff I used to do back home, and then she was like, well, it’s too bad your dad’s not here to see what a whore you’ve become. So I punched her in the face. 

Kinley and I used to rough house with each other all the time, same with Kelsie and I. This girl was a brat anyways, her dad paid her way into the show. She said that? Yup, you had the right to punch her. I'll make sure to tell the principal that too. I hope it's not the same old lady that used to be around when I was in the home.

I… Okay.  Oh, no. I punched Cara the other day, and then I got in trouble. I was supposed to tell you that, but then I decided not to. By the way, the principal wants to talk to you about that. Because "that’s not something we do in Brooksville, Kay-poopoo."
