Making a Deltarune AU visual-novel game from scratch 🎮

Sorry for the lack of updates. You know the issue, classes taking up all of my free time, I can't even draw anything in peace during the breaks any more... On the side I fleshed out a little all the Chapter 3 version of my AU, and started to sketch a few more characters from a very big cast.

This is something I scribbled while trying to avert my eyes from the projector bc teacher was streaming Expedition 33 to show examples of good UI/UX and heuristics but... MUH SPOILERS! Mr. BADTenna is a very tragic character and there's a GOOD reason behind this appearance of his. This sketch was made like a the start of August, and BADTenna's design has gone through a few more iterations ever since. I need to upload a cleaner character sheet of him and the TV-Time Channel family of 14 guys... I need to make like a family photo of all the channel showrunners during the TV-Time's bonanza times. Tch... why my muse must hit me this hard when my time must be spent on something else. In that family photo, Tenna before his mind cracked to pieces looked so jolly, maybe because Mike is in there too. The good old times before the Lightners destroyed all this happiness with their selfishness. Oh, here is the reference for the tail of his species:

I think you are going to like the showrunner called VJ-DULCE. He's quickly becoming one of my favourites from the TV-Time channel because he has been in my mental backburner I think even from before Spwatchton hit me like a train. Not sure but I just hope you will like him and his strange rivalry with Swatch pre-Library. Can't say much but that we have a showrunner for each channel genre. Is the least we can do to keep BADTenna's mind stable enough to steer him down the correct track.

Now to make the post a little more relevant to my AU, the DG!Chapter3 version is starting to look quite fleshed out. My DG!Tenna also looks quite interesting, but I can't share pictures yet (though I have high hopes that he would be memorable enough to leave a crater somewhere in the Deltarune fandom).

Placeholder title-screen teaser of the Swatchling VR game that I'm plotting to make in Unreal Engine for the course. I did this pic for the GDD's header I need to deliver tomorrow. Can't tell much about the game but that you play as Merlot de Roug, as he goes through his night shift at one of the cafeteria terraces of the Queen's Palace hotel. If it goes well, it will be my final course's project, so it's gonna be real, with any luck (if they think it's worth their resources and time). Need to make Merlot's model and one of another Swatchling from a different AU who is important for the game flow.

(and yeah, I'm smearing all of my AU on all my class assignments, so that I keep progressing its development little by little, and so that I don't lose a grip of what matters in my life)

First, sorry for the radio silence. Classes has most of my attention, along with commissions and the fact that I'm hiding from socials because I'm yet to see the gameplays of you know what 😅

I had some spare time during second break to make a lil drawing for a classmate that is still in the hospital since last week, but I also drew my first research of the King of my AU on the same Page and I ran out of space (I want to be closer to the original design without forgetting the new impression). Technically my DG!King is a bit nastier but not as much as from when the Dark Fountain and the Shadow Mantle bolstered his hatred. In fact, without the influence of these he became more cunning and sees his son more often than not (but still behind bars). Plays a key part in the plot of Delta-Gambit and the Dark Light knows how much I love to write yet darker villains 😎 It's kind of strange because Spwatch is of the little people who won his respect because they both basically aim for the same goal, but different paths. Thinks King is more of a ruler than Ralsei would ever be and King decided to have him on a hand's reach so to speak (keep your friends and allies close, but your enemies even closer).

I'm still trying to practice the portly anatomy of King and Tiramisú, but I drew this in the middle of the street from memory (they really dislike us loitering inside the building during the class breaks). Anyway, I think I got my own design for King more or less nailed down, but I'm going to need to draw him fullbody some time in the future to get a better feeling about the character. You like what you see so far?

Also, about the spamblue pics I mentioned to draw, they are sketched but I has no material time in my week yet to digitalize them. Hope I can get some respite after I finish the commissions and assignments.

As a weird note, my teacher loves the universe of JoJo, and she randomly commented that Spwatchton could be perfectly my Stand 😳 Felt really fuzzy inside when they said that veyheyejteihteudsghsffjs 🫠 (and I would be the holder of the most broken Stand in ages after Dio and others I forgor the names lol)

I forgor to showcase this finished commission from few months ago. How I am to tantalize future clients if I don't showcase my stuff 😭 I'm so forgetful...

You know, I've spent all week learning on my own how to:

Make a character from scratch

Rig it manually with the specifications for animation

Wrangling the graph editor

Compositing

Basically all the pipeline, in less than a week (because I can't count the days I was out doing chores for my roommate during all afternoon and evening). I feel, elevated (and very very fatigued).

Tomorrow is the exam, and all the steps I learnt during this time needs to be reproduced tomorrow, with just 8 hours to have something done and rendering it with very old machines.

I'm kind of hyped because my dream of making my Addisons in 3D and animating them like I see them in my mind is an at arm's reach; of course, if time wills it because I can't simply expect to have time to make content for my AU, am I right?

For anything else, this is Daléon, he's a chamaleon artist that loves art with passion. Lives in an art studio where he takes requests and commissions from anyone who has an eye for whimsical art. I also made his studio in 3D. I'll show you when I get time to render it properly without the rope of responsibilities strangling me.

Another old timelapse from a year ago to keep alive my YouTube channel. I'm still beset by class assignments, and the 2 last exams are this 27th (8 hours because we need to render an animation) and the 28th is for theory. I need to lock in to finish this animation training before this 27th, and I'm half way through it 😭

That picture reminds me to the first anon who ever donated to me. I'll never know who they were since it was like a year ago when it happened 🤔Makes me wonder if they still follow me on Tumblr or just walked away when I started to get difficulties uploading content about my AU. Juggling with life and this personal project of mine is a feat that is destroying the little social life I has. From what I was told, only the real ones will keep cheering for me, while the rest will go away when their passing fancy runs out. I don't blame them, I can't help it when I'm not able to make content. The struggle is real... There's a ton of gift art I also want to make (like a Christmas one that is still pending ever since) for those mutuals that still hold me in esteem. It's hard to fight against your own wishes because of other responsibilities taking priority. But such is life, and you need to cope with all your shortcomings, like it or not.

My Seam, behatted as requested (what is a wizard without their hat?). I can't say much about them in my AU, even less when Jevil is alive in this continuity. Seam has their own key role in the AU as expected, and how they deal with Spwatchton... Well, let's say that for Seam Spwatch is like a proverbial Schrödinger, like the coin still spinning or a qubit defying coherent superposition. It's like the other amusing thing Seam seems to be interested in, but still wary about Spwatch's allegiances.

Hmm managed to draw again. It's been very busy days at class and at home and I couldn't see any free time to draw again. Then I remembered I needed to at least practice drawing this guy since Jevil is going to be another of the key characters in my AU and I need to start to practice him (along with Seam, I think maybe is going to be the next character I'll draw). I think it's not bad for my first time. What you think? I did so the bells are representing all the suits of the cards, and his eyes are gaping holes with lamp like pupils like a classic Black Mage. For the rest, I used these as reference to do my own interpretation:

Well, the 2nd assignment is finished. Spamton's store-front with a whimsy cartoon touch. I made use of my old Trashy vr avatar I did last year (and that I suppose nobody remembers) to give it a point of interest. There's also an obscure cameo to an old cartoon in this picture.

I made everything from scratch, including the materials and textures. Could be better but I'm really wasted of so much crunching things in Blender for so many weeks on end 😭At least I learnt a lot of things along the way.

The 3rd assignment I need to do it before Monday. Should be simple but... Sunday is always full with house chores. Anyway, I hope I can have something on time. I'm sad I couldn't spend any of my Spring holidays advancing commissions, but it is what it is. Once I has this 3rd assignment finished, there is another one, but its delivery date is for the 28th. Hope I can advance commissions between tomorrow and then.

2 weeks of wrangling with this. The learning curve was very steep but I managed, to learn new things and to learn from my mistakes. I recycled my old Smash Bros template I did for Glace because in the end I had plans to make one for all characters.

I'm still not finished with my class assignments, but I'm happy the 3D character is over and ready to deliver to the teacher. Now onto Spamton's store-front for the 3D scene assignment 🏃‍♂️ (which I hope will be easier since I don't have to put armatures to anything nor stare in terror at my weighted vertexes...).

Adding one more render of how the silly looks like in full body (I should finish that character sheet of his some day too).

OK, so far the model is complete, but I need to put an armature in him too because without bones, there is going to be zero movement and zero posing. I'm more concerned about the presentation... I want to try out an interesting way of rendering it in a less photorealistic way (and that means STUDYDING this Sunday how the studio TRIGGER does certain stuff I want to imitate 📚). At least I'm happy with the Addison hands I made 🖐 (it took me like 4 days of wondering the science behind it, how to make them like the articulated Addison hands they are and not normal hands that everyone else and their cat tack to their models -- I made everything from a single square). These hands can be shaped in many designs for all the other body types of Addison in my AU cast (sadly these can't be used on Spwatchton because his hands of "Spurious-Admin" are different...). This means that I can use these hands as template to model the ones of my other Addison OCs 😁OMG I can't wait to model all of my Addis dsfkjhdfkjlhasd 💥

Anyhow, that's an update on the model. I'll keep blendering until my eyes fall off.
