Some wrestlers (like, to pick a random example, El Generico here with Kota Ibushi, long ago) will go forehead-forehead with their opponent to summon their fighting spirit. That brief flash where Sami starts to do it to Roman and then reminds himself that no, he must not defy the Tribal Chief–it gave me chills right up my spine.

I don’t think it was a deliberate callback, but Sami watching helplessly as Kevin is tied to ropes and brutalized or is superkicked over and over is… not new and it would call up a LOT of complicated memories.
