I don’t think it’s a healthy standard to put someone’s religious/spiritual views on a pedestal so strongly that it conflicts with the way we as a society subconsciously desire to treat someone else with different views than ourselves. (in a negative way)
I can personally say that it has affected me, considering the way I feel toward religion is a topic of discussion in places I visit frequently. You start to notice when that the discussion is around you instead of with you. This leads to the frustration of being misunderstood, not perceived. When the topic is presented it’s always in a public or open space where your standpoint has already proven to no longer be accepted through previous instances you’ve taken a mental note of. It hurts everyone. Messages get lost in cross fire, communication becomes poor, people cannot successfully and peacefully share information with one another.
It pushes the idea that in order for one to be accepted, they must conform to traditional values and this means denying that person’s heritage or lived experiences. This is not just a regional issue, this is a tremendous global issue. | grew up in the church, grew up watching the structures of those places, tried many churches in which lead to the same result and atmosphere, and started doing my own research on what all of my emotions toward going to church on early Sundays felt like.
This wasn’t like your average homework assignment. I took note of so many experiences I had, asked questions I held since a kid the more I grew, shared information with people across the world and people who have been across the world. Therefore I will not dim the fact that | TRULY RESPECT all religions because I wouldn't want anyone else to disrespect my religious views, there's literally no benefit you get from doing that in my personal opinion. HOWEVER, I also believe that religious constructs don't do anything but divide people and can be used to control generations upon generations for capitalistic and systemic gain. This does not limit itself to one religious construct.
I realized that all forms of prayer and worship is categorized with manifestation, and the god we know today is a man made construct, though I still believe there is a god that works in favor for good intentions. Their standards, truly we don't know. Do I think Christianity holds some truth to history, yes of course! But as most religions are built off the structure of another, that includes multiple other religions as well. How much truth? It can definitely be estimated, but do we have all the facts? Obviously not, most of the things that hold truth aren’t even publicly available or even acknowledged in spaces where religion is the primary concern because it breaks the normality of the lives the majority of our societies have already created for us without a thought or clue of the fear that had already been installed in us early on.
Religion has been studied to capitalize, idolize, and control since the dawn of time. This is factually true. Therefore if you’re going to conform to a lifestyle, figure out first-handily what feels best for you. Don’t rely on the teachings of others all the time. The first step to stop doing it, is to recognize that everyone has done it including yourself. If you wanna be right about what you believe then it can only reflect with the expectations and intentions you keep in captivity for yourself.
The people trying to figure it out aren’t evil because they “don’t believe” in your beliefs, they’re just not rushing for approval in that aspect of their life. You don’t have to completely agree with everything another person believes to agree with them on other important aspect of life. I can’t really tell you how to live but if you value the mental health of yourself as well as others, this is a good thing to consider.
