PACA schools project.
Attended a school in portslade for 2 days! (8am to 4 pm)
We held workshops for children in GCSES. Giving them a chance to talk to university students (there were 4 of us) studying fine art- and to open up opportunities through being creative and opening there minds to future possibilities.
They were all really sweet and over the two days we showed them different printing techniques..such us monotypes, dry point etching and chien collie. (All on to small sheets of plastic.) They used a small printing press and we helped them throughout the day, giving them ideas and showing them more experimental ways to approach there prints. I was really proud of all the finished prints and saw lots of potential in some particular students in the class.
It was challenging trying to show them that itās okay to break away from the norm ( as obviously they have been told what to draw/ collage/ paint /photograph) in their art classes. They have to follow a certain criteria which resonated with me as I hated that in school. Itās important I think for teaching in art at school to be more flexible and less by the books.
I was apprehensive at first being back in a school environment. However they really seemed to enjoy it and they came out more confident than at the start.
