My brother, for the first time in over a decade, asks if I wanted to cosplay with him. How could I say no?? And it's another brother-sister duo; this time Ike & Mist from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. This is one of his favorite games and favorite characters. Plus, there's a lot of heart in the game about family, which my brother and I are big on. 🥹
I made pretty much all of this costume, which was quite the endeavor after so many years not making so much! Wig, socks, & shoe-base were from Amazon (also the shorts I wore underneath). All my fabric was bought from Sy Fabrics and Joann's. Notions and gems, etc were mainly from Joann's and Amazon.
I started with her underdress (which is actually two pieces). I used a Butterick B6554 for the top half to get the right shape/flow for the sleeves and Maridah's small circle skirt for the bottom half. I did make the front and back more even though. I added horsehair braid to the skirt hems.
I made a custom shoe cover pattern by taking some parchment paper and laying my leg flat on it. Then traced it and determined how much I want it to flare out at the top, account for the front of the foot and the heel in the back (it's a two-piece pattern). I made a mockup first to make sure I was happy, and then made the final version from the mockup. I added horsehair braid to the top hem and some interfacing to the side hem where my holes were punched for the ties. I also used fray check afterwards too.
The vest was VERY LOOSELY made from an Akatsuki coat pattern by NDLWRK Shop. It was so altered, it basically is unrecognizable. I traced the base pattern (but much shorter) onto mockup fabric, measured myself and did extensive math to determine where I wanted my new seams to be (a total of 11 pieces). This allowed me to shape the bodice more. I added darts into the chest, re shaped my sleeves, and reshaped the collar. I mostly used the pattern to make sure my collar would connect correctly. I've got an invisible zipper and some eye and hooks to keep it closed.
I used a bit of brown pleather and gold bias tape for the base strap. Velcro keeps one side in place. My yellow bow is also sewn into it and the brooch is just pinned in place. The brooch was bought from AZ Supplies and the gem is just a standard craft gem (25mm) off Amazon taped in place. The yellow side ties are just hemmed and fray checked rectangles, tied and then sewn into the sides of the vest, and all the vest's edge's are covered in bias tape.
The bracers are made of the same red pleather as the vest, and uses the same red twine as the shoe covers. I again made a pattern from laying my arm on parchment paper, cutting out a mockup and altering it as needed. I used some embroidery floss to add a loop by the inner seams that I thread the twine through, just so if it comes undone, it won't completely get away from me. I had to use tape on the end of the twine to thread my beads on, but then just tied them tight to finish. The twine is about 5 ft long.
The scarf is ~4 yards long. I got some simple white polycotton and made it into a tube, kind of. It's about 12-inches wide by the neck, but about 18-inches towards the ends. I sewed the ends into a triangular point to get a similar shape to my references. The pink end ties are sewed in the middle, just so if they come undone they'll stay on. I put red snaps at my back and shoulders to keep it where I wanted it.
The hair ornaments are white shiny vinyl. I used E6000 to add thinner strips of it at the top and bottom, and hand-sewed three snaps to ends. I also hand-sewed a bobby pin to the inside that would catch on my hair ties. I trimmed the wig's overall length and bangs as well.
My brother and friends (the photog and his SO) made my staff! ☺️

PS: My brother bought his Ike costume from AliExpress seller ANIME-World, but he and his friend, Uneven (who also took our photos) made better armor pieces out of EVA! He also made his Ragnell sword himself. ☺️
We're probably gonna take more on-location pics later and I'm planning to help him remake some of the costume pieces. ☺️
