Listen, you think Qifrey never fidgeted with that ribbon, a physical extension of Olly and his devotion to Qifrey, and Olly didn't watch him do it and think, god I wish that were me. You think he wasn't ever wondering if Qifrey was thinking of him while doing it. You think he didn't wonder and hope about what possessed Qifrey to take it in the first place.

Because I do. I think the man was tormented.

It would be easy to just fall i to endless mental (and physical) self-harm, but it would end the gentle and pure love and affection he has for Olly. It would corrupt it into nothing more than a way to be in pain and survive. It would reduce it to that.

I think that’s sad, when love, while having an ulterior motive, gets reduced to that ulterior motive. No human action is truly sincere and selfless, even our most selfless actions serve a purpose, but with love, it dies when stripped of everything in service of practicality and purposes behind it.
