i’m writing custom dark romance prompts/scenes today based on whatever dynamic you have in mind

obsession, tension, power shifts… anything like that

a small thing that changed how i write dark romance:

stop trying to make the character sound “intense” and start writing what they’re holding back

the tension isn’t in what they say. it’s in what they almost admit… and then don’t.

try this:

write a scene where he’s speaking normally, almost calm— but his thoughts are completely different. he’s already crossed the line in his head, he’s just pretending he hasn’t.

keep the dialogue simple. let the internal monologue carry the weight.

that contrast? that’s where it starts to feel real.

there’s a very specific kind of frustration that comes with writing dark romance…

you can feel the tension, the obsession, the almost-toxic pull between characters — but when you try to put it into words, it just… falls flat.

so here’s something that actually helps (and no, not just “be more descriptive”)

try this prompt:

write his internal thoughts as control slowly slips into obsession. he knows he should walk away, but the idea of someone else touching her makes it impossible. keep the tension quiet, heavy, and unresolved.

don’t rush the scene. let it breathe. focus on what he refuses to say out loud.

that’s usually where the intensity lives.
