“ Fin Costello had photographed the band behind glass for the Japanese release of Life In Tokyo… We shot Japan as a lighting test. In hindsight some would question why only the band's singer featured on the cover… Jansen: 'I don't remember much about it. The idea of putting the front man on a pedestal was [and maybe still is] a valuable marketing move, but one which ironically may have accelerated the demise of the band.' Dean: 'David was much more focused on this album. And because he was the singer, he was the focal point… This would feed his ego to a point where he believed he was the most important thing. Just look at the record covers.' The photographer had the last word. 'If anyone is suggesting that ego may have had a part in the decision to have just Dave on the cover, they would be wrong. It was solely a graphic decision... If you look at the vinyl album cover you can see why Dave was used solo on the front. It was the first shoot that really worked to my and Dave's satisfaction and the red jacket was what made it come together so well. ”
