I don't ship them but i don't hate it ! I can see where people are coming from with this. oh and on that topic i ought to talk about kuvira shipping with the beifongs because when i first see this ask i misread it as asking for my thoughts on kuvira and opal and started writing about it.

Personally speaking, I perceive kuvira relationship to the beifongs is of foster siblings. That said, I don't have any qualms with people who ship them. On a more complex level, I think it's interesting to explore the dynamic, especially with baatar jr and kuvira, or with su, like imo kuvira might have developed a mixed up idol crush on suyin the way sometimes children whose parental figures are abusive or neglectful will grow overly dependent on another present adult figure in their life like a teacher or a relative. Besides she stayed with the beifongs 24/7 and cut off from her parents, su was the closest thing to a mother she had growing up. For headcanons of sapphic kuvira, this would complicate her psyche even more.

I feel like the narrative did not sorted this out thoroughly enough. They never perceived baatar jr and kuvira's canonical engagement as anything taboo and the only reason spoken against them is because kuvira was a tyrant and not that she was his mother's foster child. Which would lead to viewers believing that kuvira was more of a ward or a protege than a member of the family. But then they backtracked it in ROTE, with kuvira referring to the beifongs as her family and coupled it with times in the series where suyin referred to kuvira "she was like a daughter" and in ROTE when she refered to kuvira as "your sister" to opal, and later she apologized for "shouldve been a better mother" the word "mother" in bold.

I'm getting mixed signals here and I think for the characters they never actually sorted out what the heck their relationship are to each other and kuvira's relationship with each family member is different. For su, she seems to made attempts at intergrating kuvira into the family as her child. But then with baatar jr claiming "she will be an official member of the family" about their engagement which either he did not see her as one previously or as he speaking to su, he perceive that su didnt regard kuvira as "an official member of the family". Not to mention on missing out on the family portrait, or lin saying su had "five" kids, to which she did not correct lin. Which makes junior and kuvira engagement extremely nuanced, and i wish the show explored the beifong's dynamic with kuvira more.
