     ❝ mhm. i don’t trust any of th’ fucks in here. my gut tells me they’re all lookin’ for an easy break. ❞      as if to put emphasis on his mistrust of the other patrons, iggy tugs his hat a little lower and gives a quick glance around so that he can count heads. only when he feels katya’s eyes on him does he finally glare back, the angry expression only serving to highlight his current state.      ❝ the public sees what it wants to see. not like i really hide my shitty habits– my smokin’ habit ? they play it off like it’s some sorta bad-boy, playboy shit. they see me like a crooked prince charmin’. anyone could’ve easily tailed me here and seen me come in. hell, even the wurmples in here could easily rat me out to th’ press. not like i’d give a shit. ❞      the pause makes his frame tighten up, iggy KNOWING that the bartender is about to sling some shit at him.       he’s not expecting it to be about lillian though, and it catches him off guard– his teeth grit together, shoulders raise some, but then he gives an angry-sounding sigh.      ❝ don’t bring her up. leave her out of this.      i hadn’t seen her in YEARS. i’ve been champion for awhile now, and she just recently came out of th’ woodwork to come see me.      she’s innocent.      besides, even if she did know– that was in the past, she’d… forgive me. ❞      he can’t help but feel a stab of doubt, of anxiety even, in his gut. would she forgive him ? they’d known one another since they were children, and had been through a great deal together… she sought him out first, instead of it being the other way around.      ❝ she ain’t my girlfriend, either. we’re jus’ friends. i may love her an’ would do anything for her, but i don’t deserve her. ❞

“And what’s the matter with that?” Katya folds her arms and presses her lips together like she’s blotting lipstick. “We could all use an easy break sometimes. Speaking from experience.”

He’s angry. Good. She’s been dreaming of this moment for days, dressing him down. “I’m honestly surprised your little pet police woman hasn’t figured you out yet,” she continues, “Some people look dumber than they really are. Some people... just are. Or is the League that closely wrapped around your finger, Ig?”

Maybe she’s enjoying herself a little too much. Can’t play all the cards yet, of course, which is why she stands back for a moment to let Iggy blab about his one twue wub Lillian. When he claims that she’d forgive him, well... “You don’t sound so sure about that.”

Katya lets the words hang in the air, her nails clicking against the countertop. She’s watching him, just in case he decides that things are getting too personal. A girl had to know how and when to defend herself, after all.
