A real queer player is making some really valid points about the hockey aspect of this show and a bunch of people (I wont assume their sexualities and genders) swoop in to explain to him, a queer pro hockey player (!!), why his lived experience is incorrect because "he hasnt read the books" and "this is a romance show and is supposed to be happy!" and "to just wait for season 2 or read the other books".
Honest to god, I love the show so much, the romance bit is great but I did dislike the hockey in it because its just badly portrayed, very underdeveloped and that was fine for me in the context I was watching and experiencing it but here is a real queer hockey player and his opinion on this is wildly exceeding and more valid in what I would ever have to say regarding any of this! It doesnt mean people cant go and enjoy this show, they can but they should be aware that what they are watching is wildly inaccurate and if a hockey player is calling that out the answer is not to go dump on him.
I dont want to start a whole shebang about how the romance genre (not just mlm but any of it) is just wildly superficial, how RR writing is not that great and the book nor the show should be taken as gospel or as a perfect clear representation of the hockey experience but damn this pissed me off this morning.
Cudos to Zach though for sharing his perspective, his experience and being so vulnerable in public!
Shame some of the fans of this show had to be dicks about it in his comment section.
