I love finding older groups to get into because I get to discover a backlog of music and this song is one that just hit me so hard the first time I heard it. I want a whole 300 episode anime with this song as the title because that's what it deserves.
Yesterday was International Women's Day and March is Women's History Month! To celebrate I want to share some of my favorite empowering kpop songs:
This Is For - TWICE
Icon - TWICE
GRL GVNG - XG
Woke Up - XG
I Am The Best - 2NE1
Her - MINNIE
Super Lady - i-dle
Rich Man - aespa
Typa Girl - BLACKPINK
Honorable mention:
SHE'S THE BOSS - THE BOYZ
In case you missed it, Kpodcast is run by three women and we love and support other women 🩷 We join our voices with all those around the world fighting for women's rights and the constant uphill battle we face each day.
We try to keep this space focused on kpop and a refuge from everything else going on in the world, but please indulge me for a minute here. There has been a rise in social pressure for women to fit a certain mold. The proliferation of "I'm just a girl" and stay-at-home girlfriend lifestyles among other outstanding social pressures are causing real harm to women all over the world. By choosing to engage in these narratives women become complicit in their own oppression and actively hinder the efforts of women fighting for equal rights. I know that sounds like social justice mumbo jumbo, but it's a real cause that I am passionate about. Because of the work of the women that came before me, I am able to work and support my family, pursue higher education, and vote! Many women around the world are denied these opportunities that I take for granted.
I know this is just a kpop blog, but hearing women sing and perform about how incredible and empowering it is to be a woman can be a first step for many people towards recognizing the power women do hold. It seems silly, but my personal #girlpower playlist is sometimes the pick me up I need to get through work and school. I'll get off my soapbox here, but please take some time this month to appreciate the women in your life. -Suji 🌸

Hey all, it's been a while! I've got a few songs I wanted to share and I was trying to figure out which one I wanted to share the most (a hard decision lol) and I think I've finally settled on one!
Okay, so let me get into this song and the MV especially, because I sobbed the first time I watched it and I still cry.
First, how the heck did Woozi come up with this song based off a one-off line from Hoshi (It's my first time living too). It so perfectly encapsulates what it feels like to be growing up, that things are hard but someday it gets better and we should still celebrate that time of youth.
Now, the music video. I'm overly sensitive on the best of days, and something about this MV just hits so hard.
So each member here (all 5 of the vocal team) has a different story of loneliness and they're each told in a such a brilliant way and they're so different that I think it can really connect with everyone.
I'll never understand the isolation of cubicle life that Joshua represents, but I can 100% get onboard with being too scared to face the outside world (Woozi) or not knowing anything about my future (DK). I fully resonate with the lyrics "I want to be by myself but I don't want to be alone."
I love that their club is called the T(iny)Issue Club because sometimes that's absolutely how life feels, that our issues are tiny, that other people have it worse. But when we all get together, then we realize that not only are our issues not tiny, but we can help lift and support each other.
And it's shown so beautifully in the MV. They all come to this club still hiding, still believing they're alone and their struggles are something to hide, but by the end they all overcome those struggles because they're together.
Continuing my effort to get caught up with stats posts - here's the wrap up for our Xdinary Heroes bracket!
Firstly, looking at the overall song rankings from the form we can see a very consistent shallow curve:
There's a bit of a drop off after first few songs, and then a steeper decline towards the end, which is typical based on our other brackets, but the lowest ranked song was still pretty highly ranked at a 3.09. I think our only other bracket that didn't have any songs ranked below a 3 was ACE, so a very solid discography for XDH.
Here's a closer look at the top ten, and that "steep" drop off after the first four tracks. It amounts to a .15 point difference, but in the grand scheme of 13 responses it shows a clear preference for those higher rated tracks across the board.
As far as the bracket went, PLUTO upset it's way straight to the top. This might be the winner with the lowest initial rank that we've had so far. PLUTO was originally ranked #24; with only 32 songs in the bracket that's pretty low. It upset Sucker Punch! (9), Good Enough (8), George the Lobster (1), XYMPHONY (5), and finally Beautiful Life (11).
Usually when we see upsets like this the songs are very close in initial score, which is technically the case here where PLUTO was "scored" at 4.08 and George the Lobster was at 4.62 - only a 0.54 difference. But, since the overall ranking of all songs was very tight, less than 1 point between 1st and 32nd, it feels like a bigger upset.
Deep diving into the actual responses received, George the Lobster received one 3 rank, the rest were 4s and 5s. PLUTO received three 3s, and one 2. That single 2 ranking dropped the average quite a bit, but when we're looking at a poll, where it's just one or the other, a single person voting against PLUTO (after ranking it at a 2) wouldn't have as large of an affect on the final outcome.
And, again, we always have to take into account that the 13 responses we received are not enough of the population to be statistically significant, which is why we see more upsets than the brackets where we get a larger initial response to the ranking form.
Thanks to everyone that participated in the bracket, and filled out the initial form! We so appreciate that you are willing to hang out with us on our silly blog. If you missed it, the third round of our MAMAMOO bracket just went live - vote for your favorites here!
