Weβre so excited to announce our belated Sophella week this year! Dates are August 30th through September 5th. Tag us @sophellaweek and use the tag #sophella week 2026 for any writing or art. Prompts under the cut :)
When: February 7th-13th, 2027
Why: Characters of colour in fandom, not just in the KOTLC fandom, are generally underrepresented and undervalued compared to white characters in fandom. Let's celebrate the characters of colour in KOTLC!
Where: here on tumblr and on ao3! On tumblr, please use the tag #kotlccocweek2027. On ao3, please add it to the kotlccocweek2027 and tag it with #kotlccocweek2027.
Some guidelines:
Although I won't stop you, please avoid racebending! This week is to focus on canonical characters of colour, not canonically white characters. However, characters whose races are ambiguous (like Tiergan) are fine.
Other species are kind of a gray area, given that, unlike elves, they don't appear to have race like humans do. Therefore, I'd prefer if you stick away from other species and focus on canonical characters of colour.
Any kind of submission is fine. That includes recursive fics (fanfiction of a fanfiction), podfics, art, poetry, just fanfiction... as long as it focuses on canonical characters of colour.
Of course, you can include white characters in your fics, just relegate them to anything other than the main character.
helloooo! if iβm hosting an event week thatβs for the wider KOTLC audience, do you have any advice as THE kotlc event week being
Try to pick a date that doesnβt overlap with other events, especially the creation period of annual events. Examples would be the kotlc summer exchange (Guess the Creator, this year) and Secret Santa. Theyβre the two most popular events and include a serious time commitment, so people may not have the time to dedicate to multiple events. Donβt let it stop you if thatβs when you can host, just be aware that there might be a little less attention!
Promote your event as early as you can and routinely, increasing as you get closer to the event.
Create a graphic! People tend to remember images and color over text, and itβs fun!
Pick the tag youβre going to use, and be consistent & vocal so people can properly tag their fanworks.
Many kotlc events will create a blog for hosting, but you can also host it on your own. This is mainly for information centralization and archival purposes, as event hosts usually reblog all event fanworks. If youβre hosting it on your own blog, pin the post with event information and be clear that users should @ your blog for archiving.
General reminder that this blog is not any sort of fandom authority, we just try to centralize information (but we do appreciate the compliment).

What is this event?
This is an event where you make fanworks (fanfiction, fanart, poetry, and/or podfic), but youβre trying not to let anyone know it was you! Everyone who participates will pick a fake name, and all works will be posted anonymously. Then, once works are revealed, weβre all going to try to guess who made what. So, try something different, impersonate a friend, and try to throw us all off your trail!
This event will be based on a prompt collection, so youβll get to submit prompts to an overall pool, and then choose which one(s) from other participants you want to fulfill. Everyone who makes a gift work will receive a gift work. And if this sounds confusing, donβt worry. There will be tutorials and people happy to help! And please feel free to join the Discord even if you're not sure you want to participate. There are more resources, like a glossary of terms, there.
Gift Minimums:
Fic: 1000 words, with an ending
Art: A drawing completed to the standard you would normally post as "finished"
Poetry: 150 words OR a sonnet, villanelle, cascade, ghazal, pantoum, rondeau, or sestina
Podfic: Audio of either 1000 words or the complete work, whichever is shorter
Basic Rules for Participating:
You must be 13 or older.
You must join the Discord server and follow all the rules listed there.
You must have an AO3 account, sign up through AO3, and post your gift on AO3.
You must do your best to make a gift that meets the minimum requirements, and that you think your recipient will like, within the time of the event.
You must contact a moderator as soon as possible if you need to drop out of the event.
You must keep your fake name, gift(s), and recipient(s) anonymous until creator reveals.

FAQ
How will this event work?
You will sign up by making at least three prompts using the eventβs tag set. These tags will be nominated by participants during the tag nominations period, and these prompts will go into a big pool we can all pick from.
The nominated tags will be mainly KotLC relationships, but you also have the option to use βadditional tagsβ like tropes and AUs. For example, I could make a prompt for a fanfiction about Sophie/Fitz, and I could add the tags βAU - Universityβ and βHurt/Comfortβ as suggestions for what I want to see. This can help people find the prompts theyβre most interested in creating for. Additional tags are optional, though!
Then, when the creation period starts, people will use AO3βs βclaimingβ function to anonymously claim prompts they intend to create for. This way, we donβt all create for the same prompts.Β
At the end of the creation period, and once everyone who has made a gift has received a gift, weβll provide a list of everyone who posted and every fake name. Then, youβll guess which fake name belongs to which creator, and weβll see how close we can all get!
How do the fake names work?
Everyone who participates will choose a fake name, like Crow or Kevin. Donβt tell anyone what it is. When you post your work anonymously, youβll include in your authorβs note, βBy: Crow.β A fake name is required on the first work you post.
If you post more works after that, you can choose whether or not to include your fake name as part of the game (a lot of works about a certain character from Crow might be a clue to who they are)! However, you cannot have more than one fake name; you must use the same one for the entire event.
How many prompts do I need to sign up?
You'll need to make at least three different prompts. You will not need to offer anything, because participants are not being matched. Youβll simply pick for yourself which prompt(s) you want to fill.Β
The prompt collection will also remain open until creator reveals. Please do not edit your prompts after signups closeβwe donβt want a valid gift to become invalidβbut you will be able to submit additional prompts throughout the event, up to fifteen total.
How many fanworks do I need to make?
Youβre only required to make one gift!
Can I make more than one gift?
Yes! You can fulfill as many prompts from the collection as you like within the creation period, so long as your first one meets the minimum requirements.Β
After that, any additional works can be full gifts, or they can be βtreatsββextra mini gifts just for fun.Β
What if I don't get a gift?
We won't reveal the works until everyone has a full gift. If none of your prompts have been filled, weβll post you as a pinch hit, and the exchange will remain closed until someone fills one of your prompts to the minimum requirements. Everyone who participates will receive a full gift.
What isn't allowed in the exchange?
For the comfort of the most number of participants: noncon, incest, bestiality, romantic relationships between characters who are canonically adults (over 18) and characters who are canonically minors (under 18), and NSFW are not permitted. AI is also not allowed.
Considering the series, graphic violence and major character death are allowed, but only if the recipient says they're okay with receiving them.
Can multiple people claim the same prompt?
Technically, yes. However, we ask that you first look for unclaimed prompts so we donβt have several people fulfilling the same few. Later in the event, when more prompts have been claimed, overlap is more permissible.Β
Can I submit a prompt for a recursive work?
You can only submit prompts for recursive works (fanworks based off other fanworks, like fanart of a fic) for your own fanworks. This is so mods donβt have to keep track of creator permission statements and limitations.Β
Recursive prompts also donβt count towards your minimum three prompts required.
Iβve decided to host an Alternate Style Dex week this June 14th through the 20th! While art will probably be the easiest way to depict the prompts, any form of expression is welcome. I think music recommendations especially will be epic. So even if youβre not particularly artistic or donβt have time, we can make an Alt. Dex Dizznee Playlist together. Iβve never hosted something like this, but I think the easiest way for me to repost all of your stuff would be for you guys to tag something as #AltDexWeek. If you want to add a song to a playlist, please tag it as #AltDexPlaylist. The prompts are not super specific in what should be included that way people can also depict any number of characters and ships!
- Sunday, June 14th: Emo Dex; as defined by Punk Design, emo fashion is a distinctive and expressive style that has evolved over the years, much like the closely associated music genre, known for its dark, emotional, and individualistic aesthetic.
- Monday, June 15th: Goth Dex; Goth Fashion, as defined by Fashion Gone Rogue, is characterized by dark, dramatic clothing inspired by Victorian and medieval styles. It highlights black fabrics, bold makeup, and unique accessories, including corsets, long skirts, and flowing coats.
- Tuesday, June 13th: Punk Dex; Punk fashion, as defined by Goelia, seeks to challenge traditional norms and pursue individual expression, which allows for a great deal of freedom and creativity in the fashion world.
- Wednesday, June 14th: Dex and Tam; Tam is canonically viewed as emo although he just seems to like the color black. I felt the need to represent him and Dex this week.
- Thursday, June 15th: Dex in a style you havenβt mastered; experiment with a different art style, writing style, or even try something new all together. If youβve been drawing and want to write, try it!! It doesnβt matter if it is βgood.β
- Friday, June 16th: Dex in Your favorite aesthetic; Alternative fashion, at its heart, is a statement against conformity. While oftentimes it gets boiled down into emo or goth or punk, any intentional way of dressing CAN be counter cultural.
- Saturday, June 17th: Dex in Green; In KOTLC, green is the color of death, not black. This spiraled into a running joke/bit that Dex is actually emo due to technopaths association with the color green.
The only things I donβt welcome for this challenge will be AI-Generated Content of any kind, or NSFW content as the character is question is a minor.
