okay so, this will be a long post but genuinely i need ideas.

when i was in middle school, someone at said school (whose identity will remain anonymous for my safety) groomed me. as with many children who are victimized at a young age, i didn’t know what was happening and, to this day, i don’t have evidence of what he did. for a while, i was able to console myself because he wasn’t working with children anymore. he had been fired for a unrelated reason. from what i’ve been able to gather, he falsely accused a male child of sexually assaulting a classmate. the irony of that is astounding. he worked in real estate for a while, but i just found out he’s back to working at a different middle school. there are a few things that are important to note. 1) he worked at a private christian school, so the rules regarding child protection will probably be different. 2) the church affiliated with said school is run by a narcissist who has been his friend and ally for years. that being said, does anyone have any ideas at how i could get him fired before he hurts another child the way he did me?

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

this. as a young ace reader, i had super severe reading block when it came for me to progress from middle grade to more young adult/adult content because i didn’t know when sex scenes would manifest (they made me uncomfortable)

this was so difficult cause our fandom is more divided than american politics. also every character is one i genuinely like.

anyways:

keefe: for a character who literally stumbled into the novels, he eats up all the attention lol. also certain sections of the fandom have to mischaracterize other characters in order to make him seem even more unique.

ro: she’s literally a ogre princesses. why isn’t she involved in politics?! also her jokes can get a bit draining on me personally.

stina: admittedly, i’m guilty of this. people rightfully prefer the version of stina that’s in like legacy. she’s more nuanced. but canonically she’s just lowkey unhinged and hates sophie😭😭😭

mr. forkle: you seem pretty stupid for a man so smart.

wylie: not kidding, this has to be because he’s poc. if any basic white boy has daddy issues, mommy issues, AND was tortured…

rayni: who we wished stina would be… also i like her vibes.

sophie: every time someone says sophie is overpowered, missing the point that yes she is a weapon, another basic white guy falls for her.

fitz: i don’t need to explain this one.

mamma shannon: she’s so apologetic all the time in her epilogues and people keep acting like the series is long because she’s greedy. GUYS SHE HAS 2 CHILDREN AND GOT A DIVORCE. ALSO SHE DIDNT PLAN THE SERIES OUT BUT IDC SHES MOTHER!

fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.

“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”

if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.
