Do you think Mako kissing Asami back was in character? When Korra came back from a war, this is what she would walk into. Don't you think it was a degrading thing to do Korra?

The fact that he is friends with a person who would act so desperately selfish says a lot about how he doesn't respect Korra.

I'm not sure how Makorra would work as long as he doesn't realize that. No self respecting woman would put up with that.

The way this is a reach 🤌 so if I understand correctly, Asami instigated the kiss with Mako and somehow it’s Mako’s fault? It continually amazes me how Mako gets the brunt of the blame for the love triangle when it’s mostly Korra and Asami playing tug of war with him as the rope.

Vulnerable Asami? Try vulnerable Mako. What the fuck. He’s raw from a break up and Asami lunges for the attack??? That situation is at least 70% her fault.

Why is Mako friends with Asami? You mean why is Korra friends with Asami? The two of them giggling like besties in Book 3 like they didn’t thoroughly fuck with Mako’s head and actively disrespect each other’s relationships.

Why does the blame fall squarely on Mako here, when really it’s male writers blatantly not understanding female dynamics. Feminism? Maturity?? If I catch a bitch kissing my boyfriend that bitch better get out of my house. Best believe she will never be trusted again.

The writers wanted a Beautiful Liar moment so bad where two girls bond over being victimized by the same man. EXCEPT in both cases the girls instigated the betrayal (Korra kissed Mako while he’s dating Asami, Asami kissed Mako when the break up is so raw it’s not even pasteurized)

If there is any justice in the world (and Bryke knew how to write romance) Asami and Korra would’ve fought each other like the catty bitches they truly are.

I don’t even care about defending Mako or Makorra I just want to highlight that the Korra-Asami friendship makes ZERO SENSE. They’re so fucking toxic omg. And now they’re dating??? Based on their track record with respecting boundaries: good fucking luck with that.

Then you get Mako sacrificing himself in book 4 and people going “he should’ve died”, why??? Because two girls tossed him around like a frisbee?? Because you’ve got showrunners who can’t write romance???

So, it's been a while but I feel I need to say a few things it out loud (even if no one listens to cares)

The Legend of Korra and Korrasami is so important to me, it helped me when I faced low self-esteem, depression, suicidal depression and panic syndrome back in the day and still helps me a lot with my lower times. And I know Korra and Korrasami helped a lot of teens and young adults back then. I've been in the fandom for more than a decade and I've seen countless comments on how Korra helped them overcome some shit that was going on with their lives, how Korrasami made ppl realize they were gay(lesbian and bi, mostly) and make peace with it, the powerful feeling of seeing a woc as her in such highlights....

Let's be real and face it, Bryke doesn't care. They capitalized because they wanted the title of being the first cartoon to launch a canon wlw. Now we face a huge step back, with all the incel culture and they realize they can capitalize on that too...and they are.

Since AS was created we got nothing. Tlok, Korra and Korrasami are barely mentioned at all. The new game? Yeah, the official account just posted a video of Aang beating the shit out of Korra to quote "show the sets of the character" but I'm not a dumb kid anymore I know what they are doing. They are capitalizing on Korra's hate train and they have been doing this since the Seven Havens started to drop a bit of its lore.

All this means they don't care. They don't care if a character mostly loved by minorities, is being thrown at the wolves, actually they are the ones who started. They don't care if her fans, mostly minorities, are getting bullied by men. But hey...they post leftie type post on their social media so the mask doesn't fall.

And AS is owned by Paramount and if you don't know... well, that's the reason why Superman (2025) fans are going mad at the idea of them getting Warner. You can argue that's all Paramount and not Bryke, but when they wanted something done, they fought Nick and we got. Why are they so chill now? Bc they agree with it.

Even the creative team would joke about it, not in a derogatory way, but in a sense of how sharing a broken romantic past with the same guy basically only further validates their own intimacy. Can we get that sense of humour about it back lol.

Some people out there still like to push Makorra and that's fine. Korrasami is still the official canon and I don't see anything wrong with an artist doing harmless drawings like this one, be it out of personal preference or just to pay the bills. I'm not gonna start acting like the sky is falling just because some people out there have terrible taste.

I'm all for saying if she likes Makorra more, then she has bad taste - which she is fully entitled to!!!. The problem starts the moment people take that as evidence of some sort of larger conspiracy to take down Korrasami that just doesn't exist lmao.

She did not write the script for the Mako comic or decide how much Korrasami to put in. She is not in control of Avatar Studio content. Even if she likes Makorra more, it has 0 impact or power beyond being a private opinion.

Them shippers stay threatened, and no amount of korrasami canon content will change the fact that they crumble the moment they see makorra exist.

But ever since the Netflix resurgence during the pandemic, the fandom has become even MORE media illiterate as if that were even possible. With so many more places online for discourse, Korra's story/arc has been dissected like it’s a court case: “Was she a good Avatar?” “Did she get what she deserved?” “Did the writers do her dirty?”

What they somehow miss is that "deserve" doesn’t mean anything. People think suffering should always equal reward. But life doesn’t work that way. And neither does good storytelling.

Take everyone's least favorite Avatar: Roku. A deeply principled man, he tried to do right by the world and he failed miserably. His mercy toward Sozin allowed a century of genocide and war. Did Roku “deserve” a redemption arc? He got legacy guilt. Sometimes good people don’t get to fix what they broke. That doesn’t make their story any less powerful, it makes it real.

Korra wasn’t written to be adored. She was written to endure. To learn how to be the Avatar when the world didn’t trust her. To stop looking for permission and keep going anyway. Her arc, the Avatar's arc, isn't about being beloved, it's about knowing they're doing the right thing even if no one agrees. And knowing the people who do love them saw them clearly, even when the world didn’t.

So now we’ve got Seven Havens teasing an apocalypse and people are crying “retcon” because they interpret this as everything Korra dealt with having been a waste. As if she didn’t just delay the inevitable. As if evil is something you should only have to stop once. “She already stopped a nuke! What else are they gonna throw at her? She didn’t deserve this!” But that’s just another version of the same flawed thinking.

Korra didn’t defeat Vaatu so there would be no threat ever again, it was to keep the world going on. She didn’t stop the spirit vine energy nuke so she could clock out. She did it because someone had to. Because that’s what the Avatar does. Always. Aang's story didn't end with Ozai. World-ending threats aren’t retcons, they’re reminders. That peace is fragile. That survival is work. That every generation inherits a world someone else saved, and they still have to save it again. Korra knew that. You’d think her fans would too...

But Avatar fans hate change. Ironically. They act like honoring Korra means freezing her in glass. They treat legacy like it’s owed, not earned. And yeah, the world in this new series does twist her memory, making her remembered as a failure or a destroyer, but that doesn’t erase the good she did. If anything, it sets up the chance for someone like Pavi to reclaim it. To make everyone realize that Korra did her best in a world on the edge, and that she held the line.

I hear the fear. It comes from a real place. For a lot of people, myself included, Korra was the first time young women saw someone like themselves, a strong queer woman of color, get to be the hero. And not just the hero, but the Avatar. When you say “she was treated poorly,” what you mean is: “She suffered. She struggled. She wasn’t celebrated the way Aang was. She wasn’t protected.”

And yeah, Korra wasn’t protected. Not by the world in her story, and not by all the people watching her in ours. She was called a failure, dismissed, broken down mentally, physically, spiritually. And people hated her for not smiling through it. That doesn't equate to the writers treating her poorly. It means they wrote her truthfully. Not cruelly, but honestly. They let her be complex. They let her fail. And they let her live.

Saying her treatment was wrong because she’s brown and bisexual assumes those identities should come with narrative safety. And I get that, as a mixed (albeit mostly white. I know, and I'm sorry) bisexual person myself, because we are used to seeing people like her hurt for no reason, tokenized, or erased. But Korra’s pain had purpose. Her story had shape. Her recovery mattered. She wasn’t punished for who she was, she was tested.

The Avatar is always tested on their journey. She didn’t just survive despite her identity. She carried the world because of her identity, because of her strength, because of her growth.

As for Korrasami... people worry the legacy will be undermined or erased. But erasure would be pretending it never happened, not showing how the world twists legacy over time. If Seven Havens shows a world that misunderstands or even slanders Korra, it’s not saying her story didn’t matter. It’s saying we need new voices to remind the world it did. That’s how legacy works. It’s not about everyone always remembering correctly, it’s about someone caring enough to remember clearly.

Being afraid of “what they’ll do to her” makes sense when we’ve seen so many queer and brown characters killed off, sidelined, or tokenized. But Korra wasn’t a casualty of bad writing. She was a survivor of it all; poison, war, loneliness, and doubt. The best way to honor her isn’t to freeze her in time like she was a perfect icon. It’s to let her be real. To let her story echo forward. To let the world be changed by her, even if it takes a while to catch up.

I’m not afraid of what they’ll “do” to Korrasami or Korra’s legacy. I’m interested in what the world does with it. What the next Avatar inherits. What they learn. What they fix. What they reclaim.

Nickelodeon nowadays has a pretty good track record of supporting LGBTQ representation with shows like the owl house and the loud house. So, it’s possible that the creators of korra just didn’t have as much personal passion or narrative investment in the rushed mess we called korrasami, compared to how much they cared about kataang. Korrasami was probably just a way to make money, something they postponed until later or until they released seven havens. People love blaming homophobia, but really it’s bryke not caring enough about their shit ship.
