Make Us Remember
“I cannot remember the last time someone truly asked me how I was ”
Many will ask you; how are you doing ? kamusta ka na? How are you feeling? But only a few will really have the interest to know the answers. Sometimes, they tend to just ask how you are so you can have a conversation, just to have something to talk about.
“I cannot remember the last time someone told me they love me and actually mean it.”
People say “iloveyou” today, as much as how they say hi or hello. It was almost natural, almost like it’s an everyday word, always in their vocabulary. They can tell you they love you for 100 times, but they will only show it 10 times. ‘I love you’ are words that are always used, always said, but never really meant.
“I cannot remember the last time someone reminded me how beautiful I am”
Today’s standard of beauty will always be on how you look outside, even if we deny it. It will always be about the shoes you wear, the brand of your dress, the color of your lippie, your rebonded and colored hair, your eyebrow shape, your body. The real appreciation of beauty- the beauty that can’t be seen with the naked eyes, has long been forgotten.
“I cannot remember the last time someone actually cared.”
People nowadays are a lot more sympathetic if they see you hurting, based on what I’ve read. Unless you’re badly hurt, you are suffering, or maybe when you’re already on the edge of life, or you commited suicide , that’s the only time they’ll care. And sometimes, even so, it’s a fake sympathy.
“I cannot remember the last time someone has shown me the ugly truth.”
Social media has dominated the truth. Facts seem unreliable anymore. You don’t even know who’s telling the truth or who’s lying. You cannot even distinguish them. It is pretty true what they say that on the internet, you wouldn’t even know if you are talking to a human or a dog. Trying hard instagram posts, filters everywhere, picture perfect display photo, starbucks beverage on a white background, #OOTD on a curtain covering a whole lot of mess. All a lie. I’d rather see a messed up bed, a stained table cloth, a true i-woke-up-like-this ugly selfie with morning glory in the eyes and an unbrushed teeth, a 3-in-1 coffee with a messy breakfast. At least, those are real.
“I cannot remember the last time someone agreed over another’s point of view.”
Today’s generation will always be a competition of the minds ( if there are any). It’s very rare that people agree on something. We barely unite over something. We always have to change other’s minds, instead of just trying to convince or influence them. We always have to have a comment that will top everyone else. We waste time to fight a war which at the first place shouldn’t have been started, if only one gives way to the other’s perspective. We attack each other on social media if someone posts about this artist being better than the other, or if this presidential candidate is the one, the other person thinks, is the best among all. We fail to respect opinions just because we want ours to be on point and acknowledged.
I really do not know what is happening to the world. I’m not saying I don’t contribute to such fad. But I think it’s time for more people to see that we are living a hell of lies, of fallacies, of false stuffs. We are not truly living.
Sad enough, the wider the range of technology being discovered, the narrower our minds are becoming.
Let us not forget the real deal of life. Make us remember.
