Poem 33
In Memory of George floyd.
Just across the border
When we were huddled in with our loved ones
Nose and mouth covered in blue masks
Waiting for the pandemic to passover.
Waiting in long lines for limited food supplies at grocery stores
Banging our pots and pans hysterically in unison
at 7:30 every evening
In support of the Essential workers returning home from the frontlines.
From the frontlines
There are tales of looters
camouflaged into the crowd of protesters
Breaking windows to department stores
Stealing gold, sneakers
and burning down the fabric of society.
His blood cries out from the concrete.
I buried three cowries in his honor
And hope his life will never be overshadowed
What was committed in broad daylight
Will never be covered up in the shadows.
