A Talk Between Friends| Kol & Sofia

Sofia was strange. She handled stress rather well when it came to work. Sure, she was bossy and a little on edge but for the most part, she loved her job to pieces and couldn’t wait to get back to it every single day. One thing she wasn’t good at though, was dealing with relationships, especially addressing her now ex fiancé, Jeremy. The decision to end things was not her own and to this day, it was difficult for her to put away those memories, no matter how hard she tried to do so. She had sacrificed so may years with that man, loved him whole heartedly and for him to break up with her - it was completely devastating, shattered her heart.
But during their separation, she had been getting better. Distracting herself with not only work, but other people whenever she craved the attention of another being. What she hadn’t anticipated though, was him showing up at her door, uttering the famous words ‘we need to talk.’ Never once had she thought that he would want her back, throw this curveball into her life when their break up had been laced with accusations on his part, jealousy and anger. When he started talking, placed her old engagement ring on the table and asked her to think about things, didn’t know what to say.
Moments after he had left, the girl let out a heavy sigh, running her hands through her hair with closed eyes as she thought about what to do. How she felt… Who she wanted… After several minutes of complete silence with her thoughts, the girl then checked her phone, noticing a miss call from Kol and decided to go and see him. She was just about to call him when she opened the door and was faced with the man she was just thinking about; “Hey..” Sofia said, somewhat surprised by him, “Sorry, I was distracted.” She admitted vaguely, wondering if Kol had noticed Jeremy walking away from her apartment earlier. Opening the door up for him more, Sofia nodded her head, welcoming him, “Do you wanna come in?” She asked.
Kol had never enjoyed relationships, nor had he ever enjoyed getting close enough to people, not because he didn’t enjoy their company on being with someone in that way, but because Kol knew that if he lost someone else he wouldn’t be able to carry on, he wouldn’t be able to pick up the pieces like he’d had too previously with his Mother. He’d rang Sofia to see how she was doing after her ER stint, and when she’d sent it straight to voicemail, instead of leaving it until she was ready to ring back, he made her way to her apartment.
So when he saw Jeremy, walking through the apartment complex reception he felt the temperature in his body rise and his stomach do the opposite, the only person he knew in Denver was Sofia, and it was obvious he’d been to see. His body carried him to her front door quicker than he realised and he stood for a second before the realisation that the door was opening brought him back to exactly where he was. As the brunette he’d called his best friend for over two decades stood in front of him he couldn’t help but feel angry at her, like he was going to lose her even though she was right there, within arms reach.
“Hi.” His reply was short, and cold, even for him, and as he looked at Sofia, he could hear her speaking but he didn’t care much for what she was saying. “No.. Why was Jeremy here?” He replied, and asked her at the same time, Kol had watched for so long as Jeremy had torn Sofia down, he’d made her feel as though she wasn’t worthy or wasn’t good enough. Standing in the same place, not moving a muscle as he searched her face for an answer quicker than she was offering.
