Shriners classic cars show …

I haven’t been out taking photos much lately thanks to it being hot & humid. This time of year Louisiana is only about 3 miles from the sun. Plus, it’s been back-to-school so there’s been a change in the routine.

But this past weekend there was the annual car show at the local Shriners temple. I’ve wanted to photograph some classic cars, so this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. It was also…

I’ve put together a gallery of samples from the 10YO’s repertoire. He’s coming along nicely with his photography. Several of the images have been cropped but only three of the images have any additional editing done to them. Other than that, all of his images are as he shot them. Enjoy!

Being a photography mentor my youngest

My 10YO has an artistic side and he’s developed an interest in photography. That’s good for me, because now I can have a partner-in-crime when making road trips or just working on various projects.

We’ve made two trips recently that were exclusively photographic in nature. However, from a father-son standpoint, they were more than that. We spent time bonding and helping each other be better.…

The restaurant is located on the lake front in New Orleans and, not surprisingly, it was phenomenal food. The ground floor is an open area where they play live music and people dance on a rather large dance floor. Upstairs is the main restaurant. If you get the chance, plan a visit.

The bonus, for me at least, was to find out that the lake shore in that part of New Orleans is beautiful. There’s a wide open area along the lake shore that overlooks Lake Pontchartrain, the Southern Yacht Club, a jetty and several restaurants. As has been proven several times so far, there’s still plenty of New Orleans I’ve yet to explore. I’m excited with some of my photos.

I’d recently published two photos on Instagram and Twitter from a visit to the Audubon Zoo. The tourism bureau for New Orleans promoted them with a retweet. It’s a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.

Making a Photo Trek to New Orleans’ Audubon Zoo

Earlier this week I made a photo trek to New Orleans’ Audubon Zoo. It would have been longer, but there were a few issues back at home I had to resolve.

Audubon Zoo, located in the Carrollton/Uptown region where Magazine Street hits the Mississippi River, is huge with lots of animals, a train and a good sized water park for the kids.

In a couple of weeks my oldest will be a teenager. When he was born he was almost immediately admitted to the NICU. To visit him in the NICU, we’d have to wash our hands and put on scrubs. He was born weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and — like most babies — he lost some weight … and some more … and some more … because he wasn’t eating and he couldn’t keep down what he did eat. After many…

It’s much easier to decide to stay in when the forecast is heavy thunderstorms with flash flood warnings. Today was one of those days.

We were headed out for an adventure of spending some family time exploring the area while also scouting areas for some photos. But, an overnight change in the weather forecast postponed that and we ended up spending much of the day shopping.

This past Saturday the family and I drove down the Mississippi River to Venice. It’s the farthest south you can drive in Louisiana before the road just ends. There’s two main reasons to visit Venice — unless you live there — and that’s to begin your trek offshore as an oilfield worker or on a charter fishing boat. I’ve been doing some freelance writing lately … primarily ghostwriting blogs. Pay is nominal, but it’s been steady. Everyday I spend some time looking for more of those opportunities. It’s been slow going, but things seem to be picking up.
