I quite love quotes, as you can tell, I post them quite frequently. I love them because they convey a lot of meaning in one or two sentences; it amazes me how well some quotes express what I wish to say.

I was thrilled when I read this one, because it’s the perfect metaphor for feelings, and how you are actually in control.

Things happen every day around us, people behaving a certain way, positive and negative life events, and we decide if we let the water inside.  

It´s true that sometimes we don´t know how to stop it, but that doesn´t mean we can´t learn.

So I was watching Jaclyn Hill on YouTube, and she was talking about her New Year’s make-up resolution.  That is (SPOILER ALERT) to start wearing more cool tone eye-shadows. And it got me thinking that it´s a cool idea, me being the make-up nerd I am; because with make-up you can get into a rut of what´s familiar and works.  But, you can never see if something’s better or works for you if you don’t try it right?

So I decided to share my own, I warn you these may seem a little contradictory but, I promise you that I least for me they make sense:

Don’t wear eyeliner every day. Ok, so this is very specific. There was a time, no so long a go actually like a month ago, that I couldn’t leave the house or didn’t felt put together without liquid eyeliner. I would wear brown on an everyday basis and black for more dramatic looks. But a weekend during the holiday break I was experimenting and left my eyeliner as the last step, and I looked OK just with a little bit of natural eye shadow and mascara. And it dawned on me that sometimes we don´t need everything we think we need.

Have a no make-up day, or with very minimal make-up. It has a lot to do with the last one, that sometimes you don’t need everything you think to look good. But it has also two more reasons, a deeper one, and a more superficial one. The deeper one you can already guess, to literally feel more comfortable in my own skin. And the superficial one is to let my skin breathe so it can look better with and without make-up.

Use up all my beauty and make-up products before I buy one of the same type / category / color. Ok, most of the beauty nerds like me are guilty of hoarding products, or buying more than one of things that are not necessary. For example, last month I bought 3 different make-up removing products that I didn’t need because I already had a fourth one at home that I was using and didn’t need replacing. Crazy for some people, I know but, I just couldn’t wait to try the products I bought. So I’m going to start exercising self-control and waiting for products to be running out before I buy new ones, and in the case of make-up removing products it is going to be a while.

 Try different brands and colors from my go-to staples, like different color eye-shadows, different eyeliners, blushes, etc. I’m going to try to make these resolutions work together so I’m only allowed to buy new things if I ran out on something or I don’t actually have one similar to it. For example if I don´t own a blue eyeliner and I want to try it, I can buy it; but if I already have one I should use up the one I have. But the purpose is to get out of the make-up rut, and find new staple items. When I´m hitting pan on my everyday eye shadows I´ll buy different ones that can work for every day, it could be different colors than I normally use or a different brand.

  Have you ever tried to rock a smokey eye or a bold lip and end up looking super dramatic? If you are going for that it´s perfect, but if you want it too look more elegant you need to keep it balanced.

What I mean by this is very simple: if you want to wear a bold lip you need a more basic eye, and if you want bold eyes you need a neutral lip. This trick helps you to maintain the focus in one area of your face, and makes you look super glamorous; and even if you are making a statement with your lips or eyes you don't look overdone.

You can wear purple eyeliner or a very colorful smokey eye but, if you are wearing a neutral lip either true neutral or pinky you will look elegant. And if you are wearing a loud lip color like red, berry or pink you have to keep it simple with the eyes: eye liner, lashes and some neutral eye shadow will do the trick.

Just look how these ladies did it. They know how to keep it elegant (or their make-up artist does).

  Ok so it´s just called dinner sandwich because we ate it for dinner on Sunday, it was sort of a farewell to the fatty Holiday food. It´s very easy to do and it´s delicious! And you could substitute some of the ingredients for the ones you have in your kitchen.

Ingredients: (2 servings)

4 slices of bread (I used whole wheat bread because that's what I had, I really wasn't trying to be light, but you could use white or whatever you have)

1 tbsp. of mayonnaise

2 slices of butter of if you prefer specificity 2 tsp.

6 pieces of bacon

4 slices of turkey ham

Chihuahua cheese (you could use Monterey Jack it has a similar consistency)

  Directions:

In a no-stick pan start cooking the bacon. I don´t usually add any oil because bacon releases a lot.

Start heating another pan to toast the bread.

Once the bacon is almost done, you can move it to the side to make space for the ham.

This is one of my favourite tricks for sandwiches: place the ham in the pan extended and once it´s a little hot, place the cheese on top, once it starts melting bend the ham like a taco. You´ll need two of these ham and cheese “tacos” for each sandwich.

Toast the bread and add mayo on one bread and butter on the other, once it’s toasted place two ham and cheese “tacos” on each sandwich and top with three slices of bacon.

Finally if you feel a little indulgent add butter on the outside of the sandwich a toast it a little more.

  These sandwiches would taste amazing with avocado, but unfortunately I didn't have any in the house. You should definitely try it with avocado and tell me all about it.
