ACT I. he’ll leave, like all men they usually leave. unannounced, your father, your ex-boyfriend, your ex after that, they soon become bored and leave you helpless and wondering , what did I do wrong ?
It was as quick as the wind, she had kissed him the night before and he was gone, no messages, no calls, not even a letter. He had been jittery , didn’t say the words I love you and left her in a jealous rage. Was there someone else who captured his eye ? did he find it easier to leave all they had behind ? She knew she was unconventional ; she has been since they were teens. jaylah knew he had to learn to love her, to learn to want to be with her, it wasn’t magical like she had wanted , so when he left . . . so did a part of her.
Now he returns in her home, a lot has happened during the past two years, she aged and moved , living by herself further into the heart of the city to start a new, meet new people , and he kept track of her. Her surprise is almost frightened and angered, her eyes begin to fill with tears, she has so much to say but it’ll only come out as a fit of rage. Fuck you Gadiel, Fuck you. “ where the fuck have you been? ” before her stands a cheater, a liar who fucking betrayed her,
he matured, but with that came more apathy. it’s almost as if he’s a different person at times. more violent yet composed. rage could come back at the snap of your fingers. he always felt calm around her yet it was still there beneath it all. the rage of betrayal. someone he thought to call family sold him out. instead of staying to deal with it he fled. it hurt him just the same as it must’ve broken her heart. to leave a woman he loved so dearly ... a woman he couldn’t just forget. so he hired people to keep an eye on her. watch her every move. monitor her phone, check her businesses, and her business partners. with this he made sure she wouldn’t be hurt while he was gone. no one could break her.
gadiel simply stand before her in a laid back stance. hands tucked away in the front pocket of his sweater. everything was an act because letting her know he was filled with worry for her would crumble the little hope for his appearance as the king. the stoic, heartless, murderous kingpin. somehow it still hasn’t registered that this was jaylah. not just any woman but the woman who loved him for all he was. teeth sink into his lower lip. anxiety building. an orchestra of uneasiness reaching it’s crescendo. please forgive me.
“ i had to run. had a rat on the inside, and they would’ve had me. ”
it’s a shot in the dark but he’s hoping she sympathizes. they were in the same business, but their own terms. if he was taken ... they both know he wouldn’t have been let free. life in prison. confined to a cell for the rest of his life. would she be willing so see him behind glass? speaking into a phone so that he could hear her from the other side. hands on either side of the glass wishing they could be held. he would’ve died there as soon as he was in. law enforcement wanted to see the end of his reign over new york ... over nearly every state. he sighs, head bowing and gaze at the floor. defeated. act has shattered and he gives in. in front of her now wasn’t the kingpin, but gadiel flores.
“ we’re better than that. i wouldn’t leave for no reason, jaylah you know me. ”
