Here is my final outcome presentation in which I chose to try hard to add what I wanted to have in the finishing product in which I added a kind of small background border around 3 quarters of the character such as the head, chest, torso and legs while using some of the colours from my pallet such as light blue, black and dark blue.

I did this to try and situate my character on the page more as well as showcasing my character's pose off more through the use of this tiny background.

also added my name as well as a 'Kanji' symbol representing Samurai in which I created a border for that as well and then cut out an image and stuck that inside the border as it fitted nicely inside.

Overall I did enjoy finishing this design off much better in comparison to some other outcomes that I've had in the past but it was definitely a bumpy road to get to where I am today, I have still enjoyed this project quite a bit and I believe that I'm more happy to show this at the end of year show more than most other projects/outcomes that I have made in the past.

Here are the people that I looked into for my research for presenting my 'Final Outcome' in which I wanted to look at a wider range of approaches to how others have shown their work through the use of their colour pallets, angles, backgrounds, kanji symbols and much more. This has helped me to gain a further understanding of how to present my work publicly as well as how to make it look more professional.

For how I want to go about presenting my work I would like to perhaps go for something like a mix of a couple that I looked into such as adding a 'Kanji' symbol for representing Samurai as well as adding like a splash of paint behind my character similar to how the one above has done it.

Her are my final outcome adjustments for my Samurai character design in which I have refined and polished my outcome to a better standard than it was before as well as looking much more how I originally wanted to look.

The changes include changing the colour of the sleeves, colour on the katana, thinning out the outline for the line work, adding line work on the katana and the shoes, adding my face and hat, and overall polishing and cleaning up the design through going over areas again with my colour pallete.

Here is the beginning of my final outcome for this project in which I put the same head image that I used for the other outcome onto this one. The reason for this is that I struggled to work with the other outcome that my staff Ollie gave me as I found it hard to work with for the outlines and line work as well as my overall thought processes for actually refining and to continue going with the template that I had before.

Background!

First off, I chose to add a background similar to what I have seen through looking at Practitioners as well as my peers around me in which adding this background helps the setting of the character as well as helping the image not look as empty.

Then I started to re-import the chosen clothing and photos onto the new page and started to collage again the same images whilst using the 'Lasso tool' and the 'Magic Wand' tool to cut out some of the character background from the initial pose image.

I also then used both of these tools to then cut around the clothing such as the Haori/Kimono and some of the other photos to adjust them and put them roughly in the spot that aligns with the pose itself which then allows me to then create a 'Template' for the overall character design.

Here is what it looks like so far after using the tools to rearrange and put them kind of in a similar place to where they would actually go but it is a bit messy and is just there for a template.

First off I was using the 'Soft Round' brush when designing my character originally which gave the character an unclear and blurry outline, this took away the smoothness needed for my design to look fresh and tidy. By changing to the 'Hard Round' brush changes the thickness of the line art by allowing me to get a thinner outline for the clothing and overall character.

I also made the mistake of having my resolution too low which also made the edges not as smooth and gave the initial blurriness for the character whilst making the whole character look a bit more fuzzy and less fine.

I have since fixed this by changing it to 300 on a new A3 size file and working on collaging the original photos together.

Playtesting With A Face!

I found this first face on google to use for some quick playtesting.

When playtesting I had some help from my staff Ollie showing me that I was putting to much detail within my outline and overall design for my first outcome which as I was trying to make something similar to the Haori/Kimono outfit from before.

He showed me to just put less detail within something like a face as an example as well as for the outline of my character with the line work, this will still make my character similar but will overall look more tidy and will look more natural and will fit in more with the rest of the design.

Here is the first lot of feedback that I have received in which most people said the same things such as the colour Red not really fitting in with the design as well as things like the colour of the Katana as well as just refining the right foot a little bit more.

This feedback has helped me to understand more how to analyse feedback as well as my own designs so that I can take them further to better prepare myself for how I'm going to do my final design to get my final outcome.

First Outcome!

Here is my design for my Haori/Kimono in which I used a wide range of colours and blending of some colours to make my first design of this Samurai character.

This took me about 3 weeks to finish aside from the head of the character which I will design once I have gotten feedback for where my character is currently at as well as refining the final outcome of my character by probably changing the colour Red to another colour as well as the hilt/guard of the sword so that it not only fits in with the design more and gives off emotions and the overall feel of the character more consistently.

I also found this Katana design on Sketchfab which I really liked the look of and thought that this would be a good reference to use for my sword design. While making my sword design I tried to use a blend of different colours like a nice and vibrant Bluey Green as well as a Dark Green for the Sheath/Scabbard which I thought would make the sword stand out more which is what I wanted.

I also wanted the sword to look like it had more of a glow while blending similar colours with the sword to keep the design consistent and show more emotion towards the viewer.

However, I do feel as though the Red and the lighter Green don't really fit in with the overall sword design in my opinion as I think that it lessens the overall vibe of the sword as well as making the hilt look more dull and less recognizable for the actual sword itself.

For this outline that I made I decided to take the image that I found on Sketchfab and imagine how I wanted my outfit to look on the character whilst making sure that the outline wasn't too thin or too thick as I wanted the sleeves specifically to look more bulky and wider.

For these shoes/geta sandles I have chosen to just take 1 of them that is within the image as I struggled to try and manipulate the other shoe exactly how I wanted it so I've decided to just design the other shoe myself and see how it turns out.

The other shoe that I made doesn't look as polished as the first one so I might try and design it a bit better to look more like the other shoe while also gathering feedback on how the shoes look and whether they actually represent the Samurai character that I'm going for or not.

Start finishing my overall final outcome for my character and get my work looked at by staff. (Ongoing.)

Here is me putting my pose inside of Photoshop in which I have chosen to not put it in fullscreen as I want to manipulate the image at an angle that I think best fits the pose so that my character is portrayed from a front side perspective.

Here is a nice Japanese Kimono/Haori that I found on Sketchfab with help from one of my staff members Sam allowing me to find the right angle that I want to have for my own design of the main body clothing that will be on the front of my character pose.

Here is a katana that I found on Sketchfab in which I wanted to use for trying to create my own katana but instead I found this nice blue purple and red katana that I thought looked like it would fit my character better so I chose to go with that one instead.

With this other katana I want to use a similar colour pallete to create my own pallete in which it shows the theme of my character as a Samurai and showcases the colours in a vibrant and fierce character that is a warrior at heart.
