I’m also very visual. When I’m directing, I don't like telling the actor what to do. I'll give them the story and let them do what they need to do with the role. If they have questions, they will ask. I don't like to give them too much - sometimes I'll tell them what the idea was in my head, how I saw it when I was writing it, but I don't limit myself to that.. because the actor could come in and show me something different that's actually better than what I had in mind. So, I just have lots of conversations with them, about the work and about non-work stuff.. it helps to engage them and I get to see different sides of them that I find could be useful to the work. I'm very laid back. I was an actor first, so I get it. If you know the work and you've trained, you know that every set is going to be different... every director is going to be different, but I want to relate to them, and have them relate to me.
