Thinking of Leah Rafaela Ceriello. Below is an excerpt taken from her review of my solo performance at the Piano Craft Gallery. You can read the whole review on my website: link in bio. "She finally after writing in green, black, and blue, Spiro begins to write in red, but it isn't blood red. It is a fake saccharine red as before, like candy. It references the body but also references artificiality. And the chemical smell from the paints clearly gives away that they are Tempera. After the red goes on, Spiro turns to a more sensuous approach. She mixes the colors on the board with her gloved fingers. Obscuring the image, but eventually turning beautiful marks into mud. I am immediately reminded of my younger days, working on paintings for school, worrying about them and over working them to the point where they just turn to shit. This is an apt metaphor for many things in life. Spiro then sits up. Begins to tap her head and speak, tap her throat tap her wrists tap her chest - saying something about 'deeply completely'. We cannot make out the rest of what she is saying. I try to move closer but it feels as if there is a barrier around her.
