Dear Tupac, Last year, I went to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the arts. I read your mother notes, how she defended herself in court, what she did for the cause. I saw how that affected you, I saw your accomplishments and accolades. Growing up I always heard about how you were the best, how legendary you were, I even heard about how you were somehow still alive (wink wink*) . I never really understood until I snuck into my dads cd collection (as I often did, sorry dad) Your music always made me think, it expressed a duality that I also dealt with growing up. You were a very complicated person. I watched you in interviews, the things you talk about resignate with me as a young black man. I began to understand why you are regarded as "the best". Because you see, I've come to realize that for our people it is no longer the strictly intellectual nor the greatest warrior who we follow. But we follow the ARTISTIC. That's why I take what I write with this Pen so serious pac. I see the legacy you left. You inspired many, your poetry is never forgotten and you challenge me to be a better artist and leader not just for superficial reasons but to help my people grow in knowledge and not perish.
