"i hope you find happiness."
βββ
jimin and jungkook knew their relationship had its challenges. jimin, coming from a rich family, aims to be a painter and jungkook, coming from a poor family, dreams to be a singer. while jungkook spends his day serving and performing in every little place and dirty clubs he can just to afford three meals a day, jimin spends his time at luxuries museums, learning about art and all that there is to it.
they met at a club. jungkook was performing that day and jimin badly needed a drink, something to help him let off steam. jungkook served jimin his drinks, jiminβs eyes instantly latching on the way the first three buttons of jungkook's shirt were undone, barely hiding the large muscular chest under it, a sheen layer of sweat making his body glow under the cheap neon lights.
jimin caught jungkook's eyes too, practically glowing among the crowd, carrying the rich-boy aura that contrasted with the club scene. blonde hair like a halo around him, smelling like a scent jungkook remembers when he walked past a luxury cologne store a few days ago. the man was made of money. it was evident in his accessories, in the rolex that adorned his delicate wrist.
none of them knew how they reached there, but they soon found themselves in one of the toilet stalls, messily making out, ripping away each other's clothes, breathing into each other.
then the next week, jungkook was being wined and dined in a restaurant he could only dream eating at. when it was time to pay, jimin didn't even look at the bill, just signed the cheque with a beautiful smile.
that day they kissed in his porsche before jimin dropped him home.
the week after that, they had a little picnic by the han river, eating kimbap and sandwiches that jungkook made. jimin said it was better than any high-end cuisine. and the stars in his eyes convinced jungkook he was saying the truth.
they had sex in jungkook's matchbox of an apartment that night, jungkook not ready to let go just yet.
and then, they were just dating.
they didn't confess their feelings, they didn't ask the other out, but it was there. in the ways they touched, in the way they looked at each other, in their texts, in their kisses, it was there. love.
they faced tough times, but jimin assured jungkook not to worry because their love would overcome everything. jimin insisted that their love was the most important thing, and jungkook believed him. how could he not, with jimin looking at him with those crescent eyes and a reassuring smile?
after a whole month of no communication, which was odd since jimin used to text him every second, jungkook received an envelope. he recognized the lipstick print on it, seen everywhere on billboards, magazines, and youtube ads.
opening it confirmed his suspicion β an invitation to jimin's wedding. jimin was marrying han iseul, the ambassador of a popular makeup brand, the girl jimin's family had eyed for a while.
jungkook scoffs at the irony.
love, it seemed, wasn't enough. it never had been.
he attends the wedding, of course. how could he not? he was invited β with a lipstick print that probably cost more than all of his earnings. wearing the suit from his first date with jimin (the only presentable one he owns), he holds back tears as he watches the bride and the groom, well his ex-boyfriend now, exchange vows.
jimin's face shows no emotion, reading vows off a paper with an emotionless voice. his eyes are red, probably from crying a lot. everyone cries before their wedding day, right? during iseul's vows, jimin's eyes scan through the crowd and meet jungkook's. they widen briefly before a tear rolls down his face, quickly wiped away by the bride with a giggle. jungkook looks away.
"you may kiss," the officiant says, but jungkook can't bear to watch. feeling dizzy, like he might throw up, he turns away from the soon-to-be couple and walks out without looking back. jimin promised him a love to last forever. but promises have always meant to be broken, right?
as jimin says goodbye to the last guests, he finally drops the fake smile from his face. his eyes quickly find the table where jungkook was sitting, curious about who invited him.
he doesn't have to wonder for long as someone approaches, linking arms with him.
"can't believe he came," iseul says, giving jimin a peck on the cheek.
"why'd you invite him, seul-ah?" jimin sounds tired, even to himself, drained.
"to put him in his place," iseul giggles, "it was amusing to see him leave. he even left you a gift." she hands him a paper bag.
jimin handles the bag gently, not wanting to damage what might be the last remnant of his one true love.
inside he finds a box containing several polaroids of jimin and them together. he looks at each one, reliving the moments jungkook captured. some are of them kissing and some even more intimate, making iseul gasp beside him.
they had planned to hang those polaroids on fairy lights when they moved in together.
beneath the polaroids lies a beautiful silver ring with a sun design.
"looks cheap," iseul scoffs, "the guy must've been broke, huh? read what the note says."
only then does jimin notice the note.
"was going to propose with this, hyung," the note reads, "i hope you find happiness."
jungkook groans when someone knocks on his door. he just attended his exβs wedding for fuckβs sake! can't he even bawl in peace?
he doesn't believe his eyes and thinks it's the alcohol when he opens the door and sees jimin.
jimin's heart breaks as soon as he looks at jungkook. the younger is clearly drunk, still dressed in the suit he wore in the morning at jimin's wedding, streaks of dry tears stained on his cheeks.
"oh, baby," jimin thinks, and without thinking for a second longer, kisses jungkook.
he kisses jungkook hard, pouring all his apologies and promises into the space between their mouths, if there was any.
the younger resists at first, pushing at his chest, pulling his hair but jimin pushes him against a wall and continues to kiss. until soft sobs reach his ears.
he pulls back immediately, scared that might have hurt jungkook.
"im sorry," jimin whispers, now realising that might have gotten a bit carried away. "im sorry, baby, i was too rough wasn't i? im so sorry." he gently tucks jungkook's hair behind his ear, flinching when jungkook pushes his hand away.
"we can't do this," the younger sobs, stepping back, "you're married, hyung, we can't do this."
jimin sighs in relief. he thought he had hurt him.
jungkook looks up in disbelief when he hears jimin giggle. "you think this is funny?" he asks, big teary eyes looking straight into jimin's and eyebrows furrowed. jimin giggles again, pulling him closer.
βyou don't have to worry about that,β jimin smiles, wiping jungkook's tears away, βwe broke it off.β
βbroke what off?β
βthe marriage, baby,β jimin pecks jungkook's cute frown.
βso you're mine again?β
βi've always been yours, little love,β jimin pecks him again, this time longer, βhaven't i?β
jungkook's eyes go wide, βso you're divorced now?β
βthatβll take some time, i think,β jimin thinks, frowning when jungkook frowns, βwhy? divorced men are not your type?β
βyou're my type,β jungkook says in an instant. jimin giggles again, pulling him for another kiss.
βyou must've been hurt, huh, baby?β he whispers, wrapping jungkook in a hug, βhyung is so sorry.β
βyou must've had some reason,β jungkook says, hugging him back.
jimin nods, sighing deeply. he's grateful for jungkook's understanding.
βi'll explain everything to you later, hmm? for nowβ¦β he pulls back from the hug, grinning widely, ββ¦pack your bags. we have a flight to catch in two hours.β
jungkook gives him a confused look, prompting jimin to laugh.
βwhat do you mean?β he asks.
βi'm taking you to tokyo,β jimin answers casually, as if he's doing something as simple as getting him a coffee.
βhyung, no!β jungkook steps back, βtokβwhat for!?β
βi'm going to be hiding away from my parents for a bit until iseul convinces them that there are worse things than liking men.β
jungkook giggles, βthere's nothing worse than liking men, hyung.β
βthat's true, hmm?β jimin hums in acknowledgment, βthen, until iseul convinces my parents that there are worse things than being gay.β
jungkook kisses him, βthat's better.β
βyou are in love with a man though, babyβ jimin teases, smiling when jungkook smiles against his lips.
βi guess you're a bit more tolerable than the rest of them.β jungkook says, pulling back from the kiss and stepping back.
βi came back for you.β jimin pouts, βi think im a lot more than βtolerableβ.β
βyou're so much more than tolerable, chicky.β jungkook smiles, βi can't believe you left your billionaire wife for me.β
βfirst, she isn't my wife. i don't even know that woman.β jimin scolds, βsecond, you told me to find happiness. so i came to you. you're it, jungkook-ah, you're my happiness. my everything.β
βthankyou, hyungie.β jungkook sniffles into jiminβs neck. βi love you.β
βand i saw you wrote me a song, hm?β jimin says, playfully raising an eyebrow. jungkook immediately blushes.
βit wasn't for you,β the younger insists.
βah, the song with a cover featuring a picture of our hands in the background, and the name of the song written in my handwriting wasn't for me?β jimin nods, βyou're right, love. that doesn't sound so convincing.β
βstop it,β jungkook pouts, βyou're so mean.β
βalso, you copied my handwriting,β jimin's scolding tone returns, βi'm gonna sue you for it.β
βyou can do that?β
βi'll find a way,β jimin smiles. jungkook laughs.
ββhate youβ is beautiful, just like the rest of your songs. also, congratulations, baby,β jimin kisses him, βthe song reached #1 on soundcloud. you also have a million followers now.β
βwait, what?β jungkook gasps in disbelief, βhow do you even know? when did you even listen to it?β
βdid you forget me and yα₯α₯ngΞΉ hyung were your only followers?β jimin giggles, βi listened to it on my way here. why do you think i kissed you like that?β
βone millβoh my god, hyung!β jungkook squeals, the excitement of the achievement finally hitting him.
βi know, baby, i know,β jimin nods, βlet's celebrate in tokyo! my loveβs first hit, and for many more to come.β
βi gotta go pack my whole wardrobe β all four sets of clothes,β jimin chuckles and nods, letting jungkook go after one last kiss.
βand don't forget the billion underwear?β jimin teases, laughter in the air.
βof course, the billion underwear, hyung,β jungkook confirms, both sharing a laugh.
βhold on, jungkook-ah,β jungkook turns back, instantly tearing up as he sees what jimin is up to.
βcome here,β jimin laughs, wiping his own tears as jungkook begins to sob.
βhyung,β jungkook sobs, embracing jimin.
βwon't you put it on me?β jimin giggles wetly, stepping back from the hug and placing the ring jungkook gave him in his palm.
βi do have high standards, you know,β jimin wipes away jungkook's tears and steps back, βi want a proper proposal.β
βin my apartment?β jungkook chuckles.
βi honestly can't think of a better place, love.β jimin smiles.
βjiminie hyung,β jungkook smiles, lowering to one knee, βstop crying, oh my god,β he giggles, his own voice trembling.
βi don't have big words, hyung, but i knew from the moment i met you that my heart chose you,β he giggles and wipes at his tears, looking at the elder whoβs full-on bawling, βfrom our first date at that fancy restaurant to our little fights, i know i want to spend every second with you. even if we're just sitting in silence, i want to be with you.β he gestures to jimin to come forward. the elder does so with another sob.
βi promise to keep you happy, hyung.β jungkook doesn't know how he isn't crying yet, βi promise to wipe away your tears, to laugh along with you, and to cherish each one of your smiles. even when life challenges us, i promise to stay with you.β
βso, "jiminie hyung, can i spend my life making you as happy as you've made me?" jungkook asks, a tender smile on his face.
"jungkook-ah," jimin sobs, moving closer.
"will you marry me, park jimin?" jungkook's voice wavers, and he chuckles when jimin simply nods, pushing his hand into jungkook's.
"a hundred times," jimin kisses him. "i'll marry you a hundred times and more."
"i know i dont have much to my name, baby but i promise," jungkook slips the ring onto jiminβs finger, gently caressing it with his thumb, "i'll keep you happy. i promise."
"me too," jimin smiles through tears. "i'll keep you so happy, too. buy you your favorite clothes in every color available, let you steal my food, let you copy me."
"we're gonna have a beautiful house, baby," jimin kisses jungkook. "we'll get a dog, a hamster, a rabbit, a cat, we're going to decorate every room with pictures of us, we're going to go on romantic dates and make all your anime and kdrama dreams come trueβeverything we want. we're going to be so happy. together."
love might not be enough, they know that, but as they continue kissing through tears on jungkookβs living room floor, jungkook can't help but believe they could be the exception.
