She couldn’t truly believe she was sneaky, now could she?  

Ah, she must, else she may have stepped out when he began ambling her direction.  To give due credit, though, he hadn’t heard her come through the front door, learning of her presence only by the soft creaks of the floor beneath her feet on occasion and upon catching a glimpse of a silhouette he’d memorized some time ago; had he not, that discovery may have garnered a harsh reaction.  As it is, a little jolt of surprise was the worst of it, minute enough that he can keep it under wraps, which is good here, he believes.  Kat thought she was being all subtle and sneaky, there was no harm in humoring her a while longer, so he plays his aimless wandering off as just that – aimless wandering around their tiny living room, with a bottle in hand and his phone now pressed to his ear.

And thank – ah, hell, he doesn’t know who to thank here.  If anything, he should be grateful for his own judgement, as it had him turning off speakerphone to have a little chat with whoever the fuck that was on the line.  Just in case.  Though the voice was unfamiliar, it knew Kat by name, and that alone is enough to throw his every nerve on high alert.  Perhaps it wasn’t any cause for concern; she knew other people, after all, and it could easily be one of them calling out of legitimate concern and curiosity.  Given their luck, he’s not holding his breath; the dude still hadn’t answered Dante’s almost-question, but it remains possible.  People did that every now and then, right?

Either way, he was having none of it and soon hung up on the mysterious annoyance.  More for Kat’s sake than anything, as he refused to entertain the possibility of scaring her any sooner than absolutely necessary.  She didn’t need that now, and if he could prevent it, then damn it he would.  He owes her at least that.  As of now, it was just a phone call, and though at face value it was pretty close to nothing, he’d still keep it in mind.  Besides, Kat is here now, safe and sound, where he can do his part to keep her that way, so there is no need for concern quite yet.  In fact, there is another important matter to address:  the fact that someone was sneaking around the apartment, and that just wouldn’t do.

Throwing the phone aside, safely on worn-out cushion, he takes his ambling towards Kat’s previous hiding place, pressing his back to the wall there.  His head tips back, meeting drywall with a soft thump, and he falls deathly still and silent.  Listening.  Biding his time.  The intention here is humoring her, right?  He couldn’t do that if he cut out the fun stuff and just found her again.

One…two…three…four…five –

And a smirk curls his lips.  “Ready or not~”

Was he....playing with her? Cheeks hot with embarrassment, the medium let out a soft sigh. She couldn’t believe it. Here she was, trying to be cunning and he had known she was there, probably for the entirety she had been ‘hiding’. She wondered if nephilim had heightened senses, or more likely she was just awful at slinking around their apartment. Her charade was up anyway, and so she swallowed whatever pride she was trying to protect and cleared her throat. 

“What?” She called out, voice sounding just a little nervous. It wasn’t exactly the nicest thing to do, spy on your roommate. She couldn’t be too sure what his reaction was going to be once he confronted her about it either. Fingers crossed, he’d just question what she was doing, and nothing more. She really didn’t want to get into the whole ‘well, I was nosy and wanted to find out if you had feelings for me, because I sure as hell have feelings for you’ conversation.

She was also confused. Dante didn’t really strike her as the type to play hide and seek, which is the only thing she could think the ready or not was implying. If he wanted to play a child’s game with her, this day would be one for the books. Kat liked to play silly games like this. Growing up, she never truly had an opportunity to play games such as this. The sense of freedom it brought her made her feel safe. She was safe, and was being protected. She didn’t have to worry about hiding any longer...well except from Dante, which was a good kind if hiding.

She slid down to the floor of the hallway, planting herself on all fours, crawling quickly into the make-shift bedroom turned office next to her. Glancing around the office, she decided her best bet was to hide in the closet behind the door.
