After 5 long years, I can FINALLY say that I’m officially a college graduate!! 😁👩🏻‍🎓 I graduated on May 25th (yesterday) but I completely forgot to post it here in the midst of all the excitement and celebrations haha. Anyways. I can’t thank you enough for the lyric inspiration for my graduation cap. As I’ve mentioned before in previous posts, A Place In This World helped me tremendously during my lost college years when I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. It helped keep my spirits up and to never quit. I’d also like to thank you for yet another quote of yours which you’ve mentioned in one of your Clean speeches for the 1989 Tour and it goes like this: “You are not going nowhere in life just because you haven’t reached your final destination”. That quote also helped me when I felt like a complete failure and wanted to give up. As you can see, you were a big factor throughout my college journey. You made me feel understood and like everything was going to be alright. Through your music and speeches, you’ve given me hope that I will make something of myself from here on out. There were times when I thought I’d never graduate or graduation was the only thing I was living for. But I’m doing better now than before. And I couldn’t be anymore happy and proud of myself. So thank you for being you. You continue to inspire me and help me in so many ways. I love you endlessly and I can’t wait to share with you the next chapter of my life: GRAD SCHOOL 👩🏻‍🎓❤️

As you can see, the background is similar to that of your 1989 album cover. And I used a lyric from one of your songs from your debut album (which I hope you remember!), that song being A Place In This World. I mentioned its significance in a previous post, but I thought I’d mention it again here. You see, I chose to use your song A Place In This World as an inspiration for my grad cap because that song got me through my college years. Especially during those first 2 and a half years when I felt completely lost, hopeless, and like a failure for not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I had a passion for reading and writing, which is why I chose English as my major for those first 2 ½ years. However, I realized that I did not want to make a career out of my hobby or for anyone to control my creative writing. Thus I explored different professions I may pursue with an English degree. Long story short, I failed a few classes within that major due to my lack of passion/motivation. I felt so ashamed of myself and didn’t think I’d ever come back up. I thought I’d be a failure for life. It was then that I really turned to your song A Place In This World because I started relating to it deeply. Not only did that song lift my spirits up but I also became motivated to find another route. And so came along Psychology. As I once told you, I wanted to help people the way you and your music has helped me the past 10 years (and counting!). And I loved this Psych class I once took. Let me tell ya, it was the best decision I ever made. I have SO much passion for this subject. I feel like I can succeed in life again. And, like I told you before, I found my place in this world the moment I decided I want to become a clinical mental health counselor with my Psych degree. WHICH I AM GOING TO OBTAIN ON FRIDAY 😭😍 ANYWAYS. That is why I chose the lyrics “Maybe I’m just a girl on a mission, but I’m ready to fly” from A Place In This World. I know that there are bigger and better things awaiting me in the future. And I can’t wait to continue updating you on my life. I love you with all of my heart, mind, body, and soul. And I CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE WITH YOU MY GRAD PICS ON FRIDAY ❤️
