surprise party

a/n: what do you mean it's been nearly 5 years since i've done a proper post like this....

pairing: sakusa x gn!reader

sakusa is prepared, well he likes to be prepared as possible in his day to day life. being prepared means knowing what’s ahead, and what was currently ahead for him was his own birthday. he has mixed feelings about his birthday, he appreciates it and will celebrate by treating himself but he’s not a fan of making a huge deal out of it. so when he overhead you on the phone talking about some huge surprise party it set alarms off in his head.

he understood where you were coming from, you loved him so of course you wanted to celebrate such an important day about him. so if he had to deal with a huge surprise birthday party then he would because you sounded so excited on the phone.

when the day finally came he was waiting for the surprise every time he walked into a new room. at practice people wished him happy birthday but no big surprise party. during his lunch with you again no surprise. so he figured it would have to be when he got back to his apartment. sakusa stood outside his door for a minute, trying to listen for any voices but it was dead silent, you must’ve had them quiet since his practice ended.

he made sure to jingle his keys unnecessarily so any last stragglers could hide before he came in. but when he opened the door it wasn’t dark or filled with people, no instead it was perfect. you stood in the middle of the dimly lit living room, party hat on your head and holding a small birthday cake with a single candle in the middle. for a moment he was stunned, no he was surprised. because you actually did manage to throw him the best kind of surprise party, one with just for you and him to enjoy.

sakusa set down his bag at the door and walked over to you, a smile on his lips as you asked him to blow out his candle and make a wish. he looked at you for a moment, making sure he would remember this moment forever. when he blew out his candle you immediately asked what he wished for. “i didn’t wish for anything, i already have everything i could ever want and more,” he spoke earnestly, though secretly he did wish for one thing just to be safe. that you would be in his life forever.
