[ At Midnight | Kip & Francis ]
Francis blinked slowly at Kipâs words, feeling impressed that /that/ was the dare heâd chosen to act on. He wasnât sure what heâd expected but it wasnât quite that. Maybe something tamer. Snagging a fried donut from a snack cart or flirting with an obviously taken lady. But this was more dangerous than that, even if Kip made it seem innocent enough. This was potentially getting a beating or being hauled off to jail for the evening. Then again⊠Much of Francisâs life was exactly that. A series of sneaky decisions that could get him in serious trouble if he wasnât careful. It was a good thing he was fantastic at being careful.Â
And apparently so was Kip. Francis watched as he collided with a man. His motions were smooth. Sly. Francis couldnât deny that, with the way that Kip easily lifted the manâs wallet and quickly returned it as through his slick fingers had never actually been anywhere near his pocket. It was a clever trick, and Francis admired him for it. "Nicely done. Iâll have to keep an eye on my pockets around you." He teased once Kip returned, looking him over slowly, "I suppose itâs my turn nowâŠ" He mused, eyes turning towards the crowds milling around them. It wasnât long before his eyes landed on a young man talking to a couple of ladies, and he quickly assessed that his attentions were elsewhere before setting off, walking leisurely between the strips of tents and milling people. It took no skill at all to dip his fingers into his pocket and hook the wallet out without his notice, arms barely moving, leaving nothing to alert nearby people that what he was doing was less than savoury. He took a turn around a food stand and returned to Kip, holding up the wallet between his fingers and giving him a triumphant look.
He watched in mild amusement as Kip realized he'd turned what was otherwise an innocent kid into nothing but a filch, but the grin on his face only grew when he saw the look of success on Francis' face, coming in to clap in on the shoulder -- he very nearly wrapped him in a hug, catching himself at just the last moment.Â
Swiping the wallet from his grasp, Kip decided that if it was already procured, they might as well enjoy the fruits of that labour. Flipping it open, he took a couple bucks from the pocket, offering them to Francis. "Hard earned cash for the night," he said with a bit of a grin, playfully hitting his shoulder again. "You're a natural, man, would of sworn you were doin' this your whole life!"
Realizing he was getting far too touchy for his own good, he took one final bill and stuffed it into his own pocket -- Francis had done all the work, not him, this was just to make the evening a profit for him. Holding up a finger, he took a few steps away and held the leather up. "Oi! Mate! This yours?" he hollered, and as soon as the man reacted, he tossed it and disappeared back into the shadows.Â
Returning, Kip wrapped an arm snugly around Francis' shoulders for a split second, sidling around him again, unable to hide his grin. "Don't worry 'bout watchin' your pockets 'round me, pally, if I was gonna rob ya, I woulda done it when we met, not after I got t'know ya."
He ran his tongue over his lips, kicking the ground limply. "Your turn to come up with somethin', now," he said. "Oh! And new rule. It's gotta be more darin' than the last thing. Can't welch out on me now."
