You don't keep repeating the same patterns because something is wrong with you. You repeat them because your mind learned early on that this was the safest way to respond.
The way you go quiet when there is conflict. The way you take on more than you should. The way you pull back just when things start to go well. The way you say yes when you mean no. These did not start as bad habits. They started as ways of coping.
The problem is not that they existed. The problem is that the situation changed but the response never did.
You are responding to today using rules that were written for a very different time in your life. And here is what makes it harder — familiarity feels like safety. Even when it hurts and even when you can see the loop starting. Your mind defaults to what it knows.
Breaking the pattern does not start with willpower. It starts with awareness. The next time you notice yourself about to respond in the same old way — pause, just for a moment. That is where change actually starts.
