I might refresh this a bit considering current canon so just bare with me but if ppl want a John to privately RP with I'm also open to that too ❤️ (only canon characters for now)

Kayne pauses.

He had been running bloody hands over the new additions to the cathedral John had built. Admiring. His touch had been gentle, reverent, nearly adoring. He had even made sure that the bloody streaks he left behind would fade quickly into nothing, leaving John's work as spotless as it could be.

Love.

What was love to something like him? Interest, obsession, the desire to possess and consume.

He twirls on bare, bloody feet, a lovely pirouette. He crosses the distance between them and stops just short of where John sits.

This softness has been appearing a lot lately. Ever since the other caught him in his cathedral.

He doesn't think he's ever seen someone look so shocked before,let alone the outer god before him. No...shocked wasn't the word. Awestruck.

Like witnessing a sunset.

He has never seen him act like this before

And the thought is cooling his rage,simmering his agony. Sparking...something in him. Because it feels like there's a person with him. Not a creature. This is...

A peer. A partner. A-

Lover.

He hears His Name and his ears perk up. Eyes glinting to keen attention and for the first time in a while he makes the effort to keep eye contact. Golden hawk eyes fixed on crimson pools as he steadily takes his hand,grasping firmly,claws sinking into the bloody mess that constantly covers his hand.

It's warm. Wet. Usually revolting to the average person but right now to John it's unbelievably comforting in a world devoid of light.

He gets to his feet. Neck bowed as far as it can be with the crown around his neck to keep eye contact with Kayne. He's breathing heavy. His grip is so incredibly tight. Like Kayne is a lifeline. But he can't allow himself to look as desperate as he feels.

"Arthur! get a fucking hold of yourself, I don't think we're being chased anymore!"

That doesn't mean whatever it was isn't still searching for us, we need to create distance damnit!

"I understand that fully well, but you hurt your ankle on that lip you tumbled down. At least let me get a look at it! To your right, theres some sort of awning, it appears to be made of rock, we can stop there."

Fine. But we're not staying long.

*Arthur started to make his way over, trying not to put too much weight on the one ankle.*

*When John wakes it's to a lot of noise ripping through the silence. He has tucked himself away in bones and rock for months now,only leaving his dreaded,half made structure of remains and dirt for hunts and fits of rage.

But something has wandered its way in and he finds he recognizes the voices that echo. The smell of blood from an injury that tickles his nose. His golden eyes open in the dark,long limbs dragging him out of the alcove he tucks himself away in,dragging his body from the embrace of arm bones and shattered fingers. He's been watching from the dark for a long time. The other is blind and he has the advantage.

He doesn't leave the dark yet,black fur blending into it perfectly,leaving him unclear and hidden to at least the other him. But his voice would no doubt give him away.*

"Arthur Lester"

John, please tell me that was-

"No. It wasn't. I don't see anything either, he must be deeper in the shadows."

*this Arthur looked much like the rest. It stood out that this one had longer hair that fell just past his shoulders, and he had a scar on his right eye that made the eyelid droop slightly, although the eye itself still seemed functional.*

*Another peculiar thing was that he was carrying a blade, or at least his John was. A dagger, not unsimiliar to the one Kayne might have given in the dreamlands. An obsidian blade, with a gold and red hilt.*

Instead his brain is on fire.

"you left me here-"

And he has a John. One that isn't him. It makes him grasp his chest firmly. Curl in on himself in the darkness. This Arthur and him were never together,but his madness is all consuming and confuses details with others in this world.

"you are a fucking liar."

He bares his wicked sharp teeth in the dark as the agony of being left behind turns into white hot anger,he might have even lunged forward if it weren't for that dagger. It gives him enough pause to analyze the man before him.

John I can't run because of my leg. I'm sure we can reason with him. *Arthur whispered back*

*John grumble, gripping the dagger tighter in his hand. Arthur turned his attention back to the other John in front of him*

Listen, I know this place sucks, we all do. I'm sure you've been alone for a while, no? I'm not your Arthur, but I'm sure I can be of some company at least.

"stay- back."

He's snarling,his tail whips the air and his hands shake. He's unstable,breathing hitching. A part of him does not want to hurt him right now. Perhaps they stumbled in at the right time where his lucid brain is yet to be taken by his misery and rage completely.

Perhaps the knife shakes him enough to simply be cautious. But it's clear he could attack at any moment,even out of fear.

"I will kill the both of you. You will not outrun me."

"Back up Arthur, we risk ourselves getting any closer."

*Arthur took a couple slow steps back*

I can tell you don't want to fight, but you don't want either of us here I get that. Just give me a minute to catch my breath and we'll be out of your hair.

They slowly scan his form,lingering on his ankle that looked incredibly painful. A low rumble escapes him as something akin to care tickles at his brain.

"lighter" he mutters out,sounding far away as he says it. And after just a moment his patience is gone

"the fucking lighter do you have it?!"

*Arthur was startled and confused by the sudden change in attitude, and then realization dawned on him. Light, in the dark world, it made sense it would do something. He started to pat at his pockets.*

John where-?

"Here, I think it's on my side."

*John handed Arthur the dagger and reached into a raggedy pocket of his pants. Pulled out the lighter, it was dirty but it should still work. They traded what was in their hands and Arthur flicked it a couple times. The light softly illuminating the dark space.*

His head is not clear,it's disoriented as the light blinds him. His head bowing low. All the noise and bloodlust is receding at least for now,replaced by heavy guilt and loss from his time here. His breathing hitches with the weight of it,curling up against the bones stuffed into the corner. He's trying to get himself together.

He's a large hulking thing,all black fur and sharp claws. His yellow cloak covered in ash,mud and blood. Tattered and clawed at. His scarred neck drips red droplets to the floor. He doesn't seem to notice.

"i- jesus- so bright..."

His eyes narrow as he peers through his hand at the two.

"get...in...on the other side...not close to me. Something will smell you...from that doorway..."

"Arthur, we shouldn't trust him."

He's you.

"That's exactly why I don't trust him!"

*Arthur sighed, but didn't exactly disagree* Just check my ankle.

*John poked around at Arthur's ankle, carefully inspecting the injuries they got with their run in before.*

"you have every right to not trust me. But you shouldn't trust /him/ either."

He starts snarling at the other.

"you will end up here. Alone. No matter what you do with him. No matter how far you go. Everything. Fucking everything. Doesn't matter. And you will be...right here. Or crushed in my jaws. John Doe."

His face twists at saying his name,and he shrinks a little from his rage into misery. It hurts him. This rage is double sided. It bites both ways.

"YOU KNOW NOTHING OF HIM!"

John.

"Just because you weren't worth coming back for doesn't mean he-!"

Shut up! If we die here, now, then Emcee can't bring us back. *Arthur quickly grabbed John's hand, squeezing it hard. John shut up, but growled at his other version.*

He stands up again,snarling toward them. His eyes focus on where their hands meet and his eyes just get wetter. His own hand flexes in desperation for another.

While he looks furious his crying between snarling teeth suggests he isn't entirely gone. That words can still hurt a man even if said man doesn't want to be there anymore.

"it doesn't matter. Your ankle doesn't matter. You are going to end up here no matter what you fucking do. "

*he winced as he tightened the fabric around his ankle, sucking in a breath between his teeth.*

I survived the prison pits. I survived countless life or death games. I have survived being hunted, and trapped, and beaten. I've survived being the muse of the crawling chaos.

Even now I refuse to disappear. And you sure as hell aren't going to stop me now.

His ears pin back some as he watches the other frantically try to survive. He's closer now and perhaps it's the proximity to the light that is helping him think clearer. He feels a sickness in his stomach and he glances at the entrance then back to Arthur. It's like there's a switch that was flipped as he steadily lowers himself to the ground in front of Arthur,peering at his injury. Catching his breath in the silence.

His yelling and snapping wasn't making him go away. At least not yet. And the calming glow of the lighter is washing over him the closer he gets. Obviously calming him down.

"Arthur! get a fucking hold of yourself, I don't think we're being chased anymore!"

That doesn't mean whatever it was isn't still searching for us, we need to create distance damnit!

He's snarling,his tail whips the air and his hands shake. He's unstable,breathing hitching. A part of him does not want to hurt him right now. Perhaps they stumbled in at the right time where his lucid brain is yet to be taken by his misery and rage completely.

Perhaps the knife shakes him enough to simply be cautious. But it's clear he could attack at any moment,even out of fear.

"I will kill the both of you. You will not outrun me."

"Back up Arthur, we risk ourselves getting any closer."

*Arthur took a couple slow steps back*

I can tell you don't want to fight, but you don't want either of us here I get that. Just give me a minute to catch my breath and we'll be out of your hair.

They slowly scan his form,lingering on his ankle that looked incredibly painful. A low rumble escapes him as something akin to care tickles at his brain.

"lighter" he mutters out,sounding far away as he says it. And after just a moment his patience is gone

"the fucking lighter do you have it?!"

"Arthur! get a fucking hold of yourself, I don't think we're being chased anymore!"

That doesn't mean whatever it was isn't still searching for us, we need to create distance damnit!

"I understand that fully well, but you hurt your ankle on that lip you tumbled down. At least let me get a look at it! To your right, theres some sort of awning, it appears to be made of rock, we can stop there."

Fine. But we're not staying long.

*When John wakes it's to a lot of noise ripping through the silence. He has tucked himself away in bones and rock for months now,only leaving his dreaded,half made structure of remains and dirt for hunts and fits of rage.

But something has wandered its way in and he finds he recognizes the voices that echo. The smell of blood from an injury that tickles his nose. His golden eyes open in the dark,long limbs dragging him out of the alcove he tucks himself away in,dragging his body from the embrace of arm bones and shattered fingers. He's been watching from the dark for a long time. The other is blind and he has the advantage.

He doesn't leave the dark yet,black fur blending into it perfectly,leaving him unclear and hidden to at least the other him. But his voice would no doubt give him away.*

"Arthur Lester"

John, please tell me that was-

"No. It wasn't. I don't see anything either, he must be deeper in the shadows."

*this Arthur looked much like the rest. It stood out that this one had longer hair that fell just past his shoulders, and he had a scar on his right eye that made the eyelid droop slightly, although the eye itself still seemed functional.*

*Another peculiar thing was that he was carrying a blade, or at least his John was. A dagger, not unsimiliar to the one Kayne might have given in the dreamlands. An obsidian blade, with a gold and red hilt.*

Instead his brain is on fire.

"you left me here-"

And he has a John. One that isn't him. It makes him grasp his chest firmly. Curl in on himself in the darkness. This Arthur and him were never together,but his madness is all consuming and confuses details with others in this world.

"you are a fucking liar."

He bares his wicked sharp teeth in the dark as the agony of being left behind turns into white hot anger,he might have even lunged forward if it weren't for that dagger. It gives him enough pause to analyze the man before him.

John I can't run because of my leg. I'm sure we can reason with him. *Arthur whispered back*

*John grumble, gripping the dagger tighter in his hand. Arthur turned his attention back to the other John in front of him*

Listen, I know this place sucks, we all do. I'm sure you've been alone for a while, no? I'm not your Arthur, but I'm sure I can be of some company at least.

"stay- back."
